There is a little girl at school

Her name is Tina, she’s really cool.

I wish her seat were next to mine,

That really would be very fine.

When we’re together it’s rather funny

I get this feeling in my tummy.

4

I often want to speak to her,

I don’t know why I never dare.

I talk to her seems very scary,

I bet she thinks I’m dull and dreary.

My friend’s big brother who is much older,

Said to write upon her folder

5

“I think you’re cool, I like your looks.

Will you let me carry your books?”

I signed the note Anonymous,

Now how I wish I’d signed it Guss.

I wear sunglasses every night,

In case my dreams are very bright.

When I dream, you’ve guessed it right,

It is the middle of the night.

I’m told I jump and move around,

But never snore or make a sound.

10

I dream, of very silly things,

Of giant mice and cats with wings.

I dream of school and of my friends,

I dream that childhood never ends.

I dream of cake and candy feasts,

Of my dog Spot and nasty beasts.

11

The beasty ones are rather scary,

Especially if they are big and hairy.

One I have said repeatedly,

Why it’s great, now you will see.

I dream a horse is on my bed,

He has a frog upon his head.

12

His coat is pink, his tail quite white,

I dream of him most every night.

He speaks to me, says do not hide,

And I will take you for a ride.

We ride into a candy store,

Then I awake, there is no more.

Of all the things in China,

Of all the wonders of Rome,

The very nicest place to be,

Is with my Mummy at home.

Roses are violets,

Blue is so red,

I’d rather stay up,

Than go to bed.

A man went home,

And put his hat on the cake,

And ate the cat by mistake.

Imagination is the thing,

That lets you be,

A queen or king.

When I was thinking,

One dark night,

I couldn’t sleep,

The moon was bright.

28

I imagined I was a key,

And everywhere they carried me.

I opened doors, I locked some locks,

I never needed pants or socks.

I was a very special key,

Not just a metal one, you see.

29

I was the key to some success,.

I had no real fixed address.

I was the key to some solutions,

I opened the doors to institutions.

30

But of all the types of keys I was,

The very best was of hearts because,

To be a key to someone’s heart,

It’s not a job, it is an art.

One and two and three and four,

If I had time, I’d count much more.

Half past eight, and half past nine,

I can nearly tell the time.

34

No thank you – Yes if I might,

When I try I’m so polite.

Here I come and now I’ve gone,

Let’s hope this rhyme is not too long.

Adrienne said to brother Dan,

When you grow up to be a man,

Do all the things that Mother said,

And don’t forget to make your bed.

Be nice to people and don’t annoy,

And you will be the nicest boy.

I know a cow, her name is Daisy,

She’s very nice but rather crazy.

At milking time she eats chocolate chips,

And shakes quite violently with her hips.

She told me this is how to make,

The very best chocolate shake.

When I was eating Shoo-Fly-Pie,

A little fly flew in my eye.

I began to scratch and wriggle and shout,

Then the little fly flew out.

He said, “I hope I caused no pain.

I will not fly in there again.”

I had a little bunny,

Her fur was soft and funny.

I bought her carrots every day,

Which cost a lot of money.

There was a little bat,

Who had a cowboy hat.

It never stayed upon his head,

So he wore it on his feet instead.

One night when all were fast asleep,

I heard a shout and had to peep.

I saw my Teddy and Spot, the dog,

Sitting on the bedroom rug.

Teddy said, “Spot, please never tell,

That we can hear and speak as well.”

58

If humans knew – Oh! Bless my paws

That we all work with Santa Claus.

That when he comes on starlit night,

With big red cloak and beard so white.

59

We make sure all are fast asleep,

So he can come on tip-toe feet.

And fill the stockings one by one,

Oh, Spot, don’t tell -you’ll spoil the fun.

Excuse me sir, oh! pardon me,

I mean you sir, yes Mr. Bee.

When next passing, please feel so free,

To come and have some tea with me.

Oh! Bumble Bee, sit on my knee,

And tell me of all the things you see.

64

When you are busy on your flight,

And when you fly home every night.

You help the flowers to propagate,

Despite no watch, you’re never late.

You work so hard, but get no money,

And still you give us all that honey.

65

Oh Bumble Bee, you are so round,

I love to hear your buzzing sound.

I love to watch you as you fly,

High into the Summer sky.

Please stay around our place forever,

So you and I can stay together.

66

Collecting pollen is very good,

Because you use the stuff as food.

To feed your grubs is the key,

To metamorphosis you see.

So then next spring, oh golly gees,

Will bring with it more Bumble Bees!

Andrew like to play the fool,

He liked to eat and as a rule,

He liked to pull his sister’s hair,

Even though that wasn’t fair.

He liked to shout and jump and run,

His homework it was never done.

70

His mother left it up to him,

And also to his brother Tim.

So both decided not to work,

And all school duties did they shirk.

That has such fun that by and by,

They even started both to lie.

71

Eventually, as you could guess,

They got themselves in such a mess.

And then a policeman came around,

Their hands did shake, their hearts did pound.

They listened to a list of things,

Of smashing windows and stealing rings.

72

The policeman said, “It’s time, I guess,

For both of you to confess.”

They showed regret, expressed remorse,

But that was not enough, of course.

They sent them to a special school,

Where life was strict – A rule, a rule.

73

There was one thing that was very sad,

The family never had a Dad.

They went back home and played no jokes,

On friends, or on their family folks.

74

So let this be a lesson too,

Try to do things you’re asked to do.

Be thoughtful, kind, don’t rock the boat,

But you are allowed to play the goat.

To make the world as it should be,

Help clean the air and plant a tree.

The leaves take in CO2,

That is carbon dioxide, I’m sure you knew.

They filter air, they keep it nice,

For humans, plants, and even mice.

78

Birds use them to roost and to rest,

On their flights from east to west.

In Autumn, leaves fall gently down,

Without a sound, they reach the ground.

They rot and feed the forest floor,

And help the growth of plants and more.

79

Trees give us things that are so good

Like paper, rubber, cork and wood.

We use the wood for beds and toys,

And flutes and whistles which make such noise.

Houses are also made from them,

By architects and building men.

80

Try count all things if you could,

That are completely made from wood.

On trees grow apples, quince and pears,

They make great homes for birds and bears.

They shelter deer in stormy weather,

They huddle under them together.

81

We have to save the forests of rain,

So we can come and see again.

The animals in their habitat,

The sloth, the monkey, and the bat.

82

Let’s work on saving every tree,

For mother, child, you and me.

Let’s help the trees prove what they are worth,

By helping us all save planet earth.

The chicken was – believe you me –

Here before the egg, you see!

Should you suggest the other way round,

The question becomes much more profound.

The egg then followed in quick succession,

I swear this fact on my profession.

86

But how did chicky first emerge?

The question becomes just quite absurd.

Some say the one, some say the other,

If it was the egg, then who’s the mother?

Most birds lay eggs in June or May,

While chickens lay them every day.

87

And don’t forget the rooster too,

It’s so mixed up, I have no clue.

Since time began we wonder why,

Hens and roosters cannot fly.

All in all and with no doubt,

No one saw the first egg pop out.

When eaten fresh, they taste so well,

But when too old – boy do they smell.

My tip is eat one now and then,

And thank the rooster and thank the hen.

Try boiled or chopped up in a cup,

Or fried just right – sunny-side up.

92

Oh! Don’t forget the salmonella,

Cook them well or even weller.

For if you don’t, you may feel ill,

And have to swallow a special pill.

Always buy just FREE-RANGE eggs,

They come from chickens who can stretch their legs.

e

93

We owe this flightless bird respect,

Your choice can really have effect.

Eggs at Easter are the habit,

But what’s the connection with the rabbit?

If you find an egg in apple pie,

Chickens may begin to fly.

There was once a doggie called Daniel,

Whose mother resembled a spaniel.

His father whom he never knew,

Was said to be a spaniel too.
