Weather and natural disasters in Ukraine

Weather is the state of the lower atmosphere now and in a given place. 

The concept of “weather” contains six indicators of its condition ( or meteorological elements):

temperature and humidity, clouds, precipitation, atmospheric pressure and wind. 

According to the place of localization, natural disasters are divided into:

Lithospheric

(volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, landslides, villages);

Hydrosphere

(floods,avalanches,storms);

Atmospheric

(hurricanes,showers,ice,lightning).

Spring in Ukraine begins with melting snow and ice and is symbolized by numerous streams of melt water. In many regions,strong and gusty winds accompany all spring months. Spring is characterized by an average amount of precipitation. Already in April,trees and other plants begin to bloom, and by May the whole country is covered with greenery. The average temperature is +15 degrees.

The summer months are characterized by hot weather. The average daytime air temperature reaches 30 degrees,although in recent years it has been exceeded. Summer is characterized by medium to low rainfall.

Autumn in Ukraine is characterized by a fairly large amount of precipitation. The rainiest months are October and November. September can be quite warm,the temperature can reach 20-25 degrees.

The country has a rather cold winter. On some days,the temperature can drop to minus 30 degrees. The amount of precipitation is average.

Dungerous natural disasters occurring in Ukraine:

heavy rains(Carpathian an Crimean mountains);

hail(throughout Ukraine);

strong heat(steppe zone);

dry winds,droughts(steppe and eastern forest-steppe zones);

hurricanes;

tornadoes(most of the territory);

dust storms(southeast of the steppe zone);

snow drifts(Carpathians).

A tornado is a powerful vortex in the form of a giant dark pillar or cone. Descending to the surace of the earth(sea),it absords and raises to a considerable height dust,sand,water and even heavy objects.

A tornado requires several conditions:

very unstable weather with a daytime temperature of +29-36 degrees, the intrusion of cold air on a warm surface and well-developed cumulus clouds. The probability of a tornado is the same throughout Ukraine. Tornadoes are more common in the summer months.
