Introduction

I have been in C.I.S for four years. I have had pitfalls along the way but with the help of my friends, family and teachers, I was able to  be strong and continue the race. My friends have been by my side to help me when i am down and help me believe in myself. My teachers have taught me the importance of many things and multiple life lessons, I couldn’t have gotten here without any of them. I want to thank C.I.S for joining me in all my great achievements and being a part of my improvement along the way. With the help of C.I.S I was able to increase my self confidence and i believe I can achieve anything i set my heart to.

My first day

On my first day in C.I.S, I felt so nervous as my mum walked beside me to my classroom. My mind was occupied with a lot of thoughts that kept ringing my mind with these questions, “Would they like me? Am I good enough?” When I walked into the classroom I felt like running away considering I was the center of attention and I came late! Luckily, I had a namesake in the class, who was very kind to me, told me everything about the school and showed me around. I realized it wasn’t such a big deal at all and I also made a new friend, her name is Nicole Rapu, she is currently my friend and classmate and still yet, a very good friend of mine. I literally didn’t have a tester day, i just walked into the school, unbothered and kept on going there. I only found out the school did tester day about two years later. I tried to form an accent or gain one from my classmates but I just couldn’t and in fact my accent today is not as good as the day i walked through the C.I.S halls.

Friends and favorite teachers

As a part of life, there is a point you have to let go of some friends and so i experienced some of this sad moments because they leave the school or I can’t have them as a friend. I had a lot of friends from the beginning of my chapter in C.I.S because of course everyone wants to be friends with the new girl, but as time passed i realized they weren’t really my friends and only used me for fame. My friends right now are: Nicole R, Nihal, Ruke, Oreoluwa, Tiara, Kenim and Yahvi. If you need a friend mine are currently for sale because they are too much to handle for me, you really need friends like this.

I have to say my favorite teachers are Mrs Okoye, Ms. Agnes, Ms Desola, Ms. Funmi and the one and only Mrs Johnson. These teachers are really great teachers and also great friends. They helped me through a lot of hard moments and help me turn it to to hard work. Let me hype Ms Desola up a little bit. She is known as ‘”Her Royal Awesomeness” and you can’t even deny it. She is such a playful, fun and nice teacher but she is really my best out of these 5 wonderful teachers because she can also be strict at the same time. I have to say every child is blessed to have a wonderful, brilliant teacher like her.

The pandemic and lockdown

Due to the pandemic, the entire world had to isolate, so my classmates and I kept our distance and we really see each other that much again and online school started. It was very tough being able to switch from a year group to another while being in an online status. The start of Year 6 was so difficult for me and at a point I just felt like i just couldn’t do it. We discovered new learning platforms and it was hard to adjust to the new normal but I was able to do it. We stayed home for so long that we barely got to take pictures to put in this memory book but I am still here today doing it. We started getting used to wearing masks and ensuring we were safe at all times. This was a good method for children to show and practice their level of responsibility and discipline.

Online school

In a way online school was the best decision the school made for our safety and also because we all got to be in the same class again and there was a change actually, our love for food grew stronger and we grew this strong, family-like bond with each other that could never be separated. That is how the class of 6D came along the line. We met our lovely teachers Mrs Johnson and Ms. Funmi. Nothing changed about our class because it felt that year 5 all over again. It became tough at a point but it was worth it at the end of the day. We never thought year 6 would be quite normal as it is the last year group in junior school but once we got used to it we wondered why we had our doubts. Online school started in March 2020 and stopped in December 2020. Not everyone felt it was a great idea to resume school in a crowded environment during covid, but the school assured it reached the safety measures for the C.I.S parents and students.

Seeing our faces again!

It was a pleasure seeing all our faces again after such a long time, it was so crazy that we couldn’t touch or hug but it all worked out and was for our own good. As the new year started fewer people did online school and most classes were full. Those online had safety reasons for being absent in physical school but we were glad they could participate with the rest of the class. Physical school wasn’t normal anymore because we still had to join meetings and assembly was also separated and had to be done online because of the absence of the children online and so we would not be crowded in the main hall.

Virtual school trip

We had an virtual trip to two oceans aquarium, Cape town, South Africa. I really enjoyed this trip because it showed how important nature is and the different types of sea creatures. Thanks to Mr. Xavier Zylstra we learnt about a lot of animals and plants that have a major role in the sea.
I also enjoyed the exciting visit to the Cairo museum in Egypt with beautiful artefacts including ancient tombs of royalty and statues of the Ancient Egyptians.

The End

I am so sad to be leaving the C.I.S community but i will always remember all they have done to contribute to my growth. I want to thank my friends for always being there for me, I want to thank my parents for the help and guidance they kept me up with and I want to thank C.I.S for letting me be a part of the wonderful family. I will miss my friends and teachers for how they have encouraged me to be a better person for the past four years. C.I.S has been a great, exciting and loving school and I have spend most of my life there. I came to C.I.S in Year 2, when I was 7 years old. I will sincerely miss C.I.S when I go to secondary school, I hope to meet some wonderful people in the school community once again.
