Paralympic

The Paralympic Games are international competition where people with disabilities compete.

After world war ll Sir Ludwig Guttmann organised competition for people with disabilities caused by the war.

The first Olympics competition was in Rome at 1960.

In the begining the competition was only for people on wheelchairs but after that it changed. People with other disabilities competed too.

The name Paralympic is based on the Greek world paraplegia that means paralysis in the lower part of the body.

In the summer games there are 22 types of sports like Athletics Swimming and Riding and in the winter games there are 5 types of sports like Ice hockey and Biathlon.

Israel participated in the Paralympic games and in the last olympics our athletes won and gained medals. The third Paralympic was in Tel Aviv at 1968.
