To Educators:
During this lesson students will learn what the water cycle is and why it occurs. Students will learn new terms like evaporation, precipitation, transpiration and condensation. The students will also learn the role the sun plays in the water cycle. After learning this students will have a been understanding about how our world works.
Lesson Objectives:
-Students will be able to explain what the water cycle is.
-Students will be able to define evaporation, precipitation, transpiration and condensation.
-Students will be able to explain the role the sun plays in the water cycle.
What is the water cycle?
The water cycle is the movement of water above below and on the earth. All of the water on earth is constantly moving throughout this water cycle. The parts of the water cycle are precipitation, evaporation, condensation and transpiration.

What is evaporation?
Evaporation is the process of liquid water turning into water vapor.
What is precipitation?
Precipitation is any form of water falling from the atmosphere to earths surface.
What is condensation?
Condensation is the change of water from gas phase to liquid phase.
What is transpiration?
Transpiration is the loss of extra water vapor from a plant through evaporation. The water inside of the plant is drawn out by the sun and then evaporates into the air.

How does the sun play a part in the water cycle?
Discussion:
Students will be shown a video about the water cycle that goes to a song. The students will have a class discussion about the video and the lesson. The students will talk about these questions:
- What are some new things you learned from this lesson?
- What are some ways you see the water cycle working in your own life?
- How do humans effect the water cycle?
Water Cycle Review
Evaporation: The process of liquid water turning into water vapor when it is heated.
Precipitation:Any form of water falling down to the earths surface.
Condensation:The change of water from the gas phase to the liquid phase.
Transpiration: The process of water from a plant evaporating.
