Researchers have discovered that quercetin can stabilize mast cell membranes and inhibit neuropathic pain. Quercetin does this by blocking the activation of downstream proteins. These studies are necessary because they shed light on the underlying mechanisms of paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy. If further studies demonstrate its effectiveness, quercetin may be an effective drug to control this condition.
In this study, the compounds quercetin and cromolyn inhibited the production of several critical mediators in human cultured mast cells. In addition, these molecules also inhibited SP and IgE/Anti-IgE, which are factors in the inflammatory response in humans.
The antioxidant quercetin may help treat various inflammatory diseases, including psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. It also supports the cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract, and immune function. Because of its antioxidative activity, quercetin inhibits the oxidation of LDL cholesterol. It is also thought to help the body recover from the oxidative effects of glutathione depletion.
