Danube Floodplains
Region: Bratislava II/V, Dunajská Streda, Komárno, Senec
Area: 14 448
The protected landscape area is located in the Danubian Lowland in the geomorphological unit of the Danube Plain, next to the section of the Danube from Bratislava to Veľkolélsky Island. It consists of five separate parts. This unique area is entirely located in the Arecent Aggregation Hall of the Danube. The system of aggregation ramparts and accumulation depressions with a dense network of river branches with a predominance of sedimentation accumulation, originated even before the interventions in the natural hydrological regime of the Danube. The branch system thus created has been partially preserved in the section from Dobrohrošt to Sap, but it is still one of the largest inland river deltas in Europe.
