Parquet flooring is a flooring type where small slates are arranged in a repeated fashion. This type of parquetry is very common and still very much in use. It makes the house look very elegant. It is used in people’s homes and various hotels, restaurants, museums, etc. It adds to the overall aesthetic beauty and elegance of any place it is used in. The traditional parquet floors were placed one piece at a time. But since the modern parquet has come into the market, they are available in the form of wood slats that can be glued together and not have to be pieced one at a time. They are bonded to a backing material, and this kind of tile flooring is glued or stapled to the subfloor. The few common sizes in which these parquet floorings come are 9 by 9, 12 by 12, and 19 by 19 inches. Parquet tiles generally include paper, cloth, or plastic mesh backing. These meshes are stitched with a thin metal or plastic skeleton to the flooring. The hardwood top layer is of various kinds of hardwood species such as maple, walnut, and many other different species, but the most commonly used hardwood is the oak.
What is Oak Parquet Flooring?
The most common parquet flooring is oak parquet flooring. The oak parquet flooring is the timeless flooring in which the figure and the flare of the grain give a stunning presentation of the wood. This flooring is in huge demand all over the world. Oak Parquet flooring is one of the most versatile types of flooring. This is made by placing different oak blocks together and producing various kinds of patterns such as Herringbone, chevron, Versailles, etc.
Types of boards for Oak Parquet Flooring
The oak parquet flooring is available in two kinds of boards, namely solid bards and engineered boards. Solid parquet flooring is made only from solid oak pieces, while engineered parquet flooring consists of multiple layers of plywood and a solid oak veneer. In the engineered parquet flooring, the plywood and the oak are bonded together, creating a rock-solid, durable floor. Engineered parquet flooring is best advised and suitable for underfloor heating. This flooring can be installed in wet rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms.
Methods of joining oak parquet flooring
The oak parquet flooring is effortless to install, and there are two different methods of joining the oak woods to make a pattern. These methods are-
- Tongue and groove- Tongue and groove parquet flooring would need to be installed using glue or nails
- Click- Click parquet flooring clicks together just like a jigsaw puzzle.
The smooth and swift installation of oak parquet flooring is no layman’s job, as the key is to make sure that the subfloor is levelled before installing the oak blocks. If the subfloor is not levelled, the oak flooring will look uneven, and there might be bumps. It might also easily come off. So to ensure that the oak flooring is installed swiftly, the subfloor should be taken care of.
