Augmented reality takes place in the real world but has something extra like a Pokemon Go, for example.

Augmented reality is a great tool that can be added into the classroom to engage the students. Studies say that 3D images engage students more!

Let’s learn about different types of AR you can use the classroom to make history come alive!

Historik App

This is an App that will be coming in June 2022 but you can gain early access now.

It is an open access platform where you can go anywhere and it will bring up the history from it. This would be a great feature to bring history alive to students on field trips. They could discover history on there own without me having to lecture (ISTE E. 2.5.a., 2017)

Twinkl

This website has 3D virtual models that are AR enabled for you to download to use in your classroom.

For history class it means brining the buildings and artifacts right into the classroom for students to analyze.

It is very easy to use and navigate and has a very extensive library.

Google Arts and Culture

Google has an extensive list of 3D AR items that you can project in the classroom on your phone.

Google is very easy to use and is very detailed.

Lots of options are available which would be great for students to look at historic art work to artifacts.

Metaverse

This platform helps you use AR in the classroom. You can create many different things in it from AR scavenger hunt to media walls.

It seems easy to use and it is free. This would be a great way to engage students in the classroom.

CoSpaces EDU

What I love about this platform it has a way for teachers to assign lessons and keep track of students on it.

It has both VR and AR features in it. For AR, it enables a student to create their virtual model and then project on their phone or Ipad. The basics are free with it.

I used Ourboox to create this digital book.

It was very easy to use and navigate. I have never made a digital book and I was able to start making it without much of a learning curve. I think my students would be able to pick this up very fast if I used it in my classroom(ISTE E. 2.6.b., 2017).

The downside is in this program is that there is not a lot of personalization that I found in it.  For example, I do not see any fun templates for the pages, but for a free program it does a good job at all the basics.
