Count The Day Lost – post reading by yuval rovnick - Ourboox.com

According to the poem, a day where you didn’t do something for someone else is a wasted day. In this picture we can see an old lady being helped by a child to cross the street. The child didn’t have to help her and it might look like he got nothing from it but we can see how this one small act brought happiness to both the child and the old lady. This relates back to stanza one where the writer says that doing something for someone else makes your day well spent and brings happiness.

In this image we can see a happy colorful child full of life giving a flower to a gray sad lifeless woman. As a result of this act the woman becomes happier. This representation shows how one act of kindness can have an effect on someone. We have seen that kindness can change a person’s life for the better even if it was given in a minor event . We can gloss over this fact or we can embrace it and produce a butterfly effect that changes a person’s life.

Quote stanza 1:

“One self denying deed, one word That eased the heart of him who heard”

This quote relates to both of the pictures that represent stanza 1 the whole stanza is about giving a moment of kindness to people who need it. Both pictures show kids helping or bringing kindness. The quote says that one good deed will help out the one it is given to and that will create fullness for you in return, both pictures show this happening.

In this image we can see people walking in the street ignoring someone drowning. We can see that those people are thinking that they don’t need to help him because someone else will. This is a metaphor that shows that people are concentrated on themselves and don’t mind other people, this creates a selfish world that will never have empathy in it. This relates to the second stanza where the writer says that if you don’t help someone or make someone smile , your day is worse than lost.

In a day you don’t help or have empathy for anyone but yourself and do nothing useful, you ‘ll feel empty inside, the picture shows exactly that in a few different ways. In the picture we see a man in complete loneliness not only physically but also mentally he looks fully empty inside with no purpose in life. I think the man didn’t find his happiness on top of that he didn’t help anybody else to find their happiness.

Quote stanza 2:

“No act most small That helped some soul and nothing cost Then count that day as worse than lost.”

This quote relates to both the pictures that we chose to represent stanza 2. In the pictures we see people alone not necessarily physically but mentaly. We see how the people in the pictures look empty and sad. This relates to the quote because we learn from the quote that a day where you didnt do anything for someone else is worse than lost. From the pictures we learn that not doing anything for someone else and focusing on yourself will make you feel lonely and sad.
