Augmented Reality

Augmented reality allows us to see real life environment with a digital augmentation overlaid on it (The Franklin Institute, 2019). 

For example, augmented reality is used on television during professional football games. Viewers will see the digital overlay as perhaps a tall wall with the players pictures and stats on it. And, it appears that the object is on the field, however it is not. 

What are educational uses in the classroom?

A math teacher could have students create AR flashcards (ISTE 2.3b, 2017). It would bring math to life and have students become more engaged in the lesson. The students would then have ownership and give them inspiration to be mathematicians. 

Augmented reality digital resources

1.) Marker Based AR Apps

It uses image recognition technology on black and white markers to display AR content in the real world (Software Testing Help, 2022). This would help students that are studying architecture (ISTE 2.5a, 2017).

2). Real-Time Location Systems

It locates the real world location of a person such as a delivery driver. It will show where they are and the objects around them. It would help students learn about driving using a map. 

3.) ScopeAR

This AR feature would help students in an HVAC class learn how to fix heating and air conditioning systems. They would take a picture and instructions would appear to help them solve the situation.

4.) Augment

A student could take a picture and then put it into a virtual environment. It could be used by students making a presentation and inputting their product on the page. 

5.) ModiFace

This could be used by cosmetology students to show what cosmetics would look like before actually using it. Beauty companies submit their content to Modiface.
