This book is created to help students through the process of learning to compose a sentence. A key part of understanding literacy, especially writing, is understanding not only what punctuation mark to use, but also when to use it. This book will cover new material at the third grade level as well as some review punctuation marks from prior learning. We will cover , question mark, exclamation point, comma, quotation marks, apostrophe, as well as semicolon. Fully comprehending the use of punctuation will help the student move up into a deeper level of writing.

A question mark is used to indicate the close of a question statement.
An exclamation point is used to end a sentence or short phase and represents strong feelings.
A comma can be used to seperate words in a list and also used to take a short pause in a sentence.
Quotation marks are used to indicate a direct statement made by someone and being written by another.
An apostrophe is used to join two words and make a contraction. It can also be used to express possession.
A semicolon is used to conjoin two independent clauses and make them a reasonable sentence.
Punctuation Study Guide
A question mark is used at the end of a sentence to identify the close of a question statement.
An exclamation mark is used to close a sentence or short phrase that expresses strong feelings or emotion.
A comma is used between words in a sentence to indicate a pause. A comma can also be used to separate items in a list.
Quotation marks are used to identify a person is speaking. If you come across quotation marks it means the sentence inside is a direct quote.
An apostrophe is used to indicate possession on join words to form a contraction. An apostrophe has multiple uses.
A semicolon is used between two indepedent clauses and will joint them into one complete sentence.
