So you want to play the guitar? Well, just looking at the instrument, it’s not that hard to pick it up and just start randomly picking and playing things. However, the hard part of playing the guitar is actually doing it the correct way. Let’s start with posture. Posture while playing thee guitar can be very important. It can be the difference between reaching a chord you want to play and not being able to reach it. Not hurting or killing your back while holding the guitar. Posture is just to be sitting up mostly straight, being comfortable and in a position where you feel relaxed and ready to play. Usually, if you’r sitting in a chair, you want to have your back on the chair and be up straight. Also, if you’re sitting in a chair your feet can really be wherever; crossed in-front of you, just in-front of you, crossed under your chair, which is what I go with, or really any where thats comfortable. Posture again, is a really big part of just starting to play and learning whats comfortable and where you can play everything you want to.

Hand position is probably the next big thing to focus on. Hand position on a guitar is very important. Where your hands are determine what you’re playing, how you’re playing it, and how well you’re going to play it. No matter if you’re right handed or left handed usually you play the guitar with the head of the guitar facing to the left with the strings facing out. You want to have your right arm over the body of the guitar and over the sound hole while your left hand is on the bottom of the neck playing strings and chords. Making sure that you have the right hand placement is very important to be able to play the guitar correctly and be able to be good at it. You also want to make sure you aren’t keeping your wrist straight. You want to have a little bit of flex in both your wrist, elbow, and fingers.
