A year and a half ago, I moved to live in Tel Aviv – “the big city” with roommates I didn’t know. If you had asked Tal five years ago if she would ever move in with people she didn’t know, she would have said no, definitely not. But life takes us in unexpected directions and forces us out of our comfort zone. So it happened that I moved to live in a different city with 2 roommates whom I didn’t know.
Finding an apartment in Tel Aviv is not easy, for every normal apartment that exists, there are 1000 people who want to live in it, and you go through interviews and tests and have to pray that you fall on the right people, that you feel a connection with them, and that it will be mutual.
Fortunately, luck was on my side, and I moved in with 2 amazing roommates who have become my family. It turns out that the phrase “home is a feeling” is not just a cliché. Because when you are far from family and friends from home, you are far from everything and everyone you know, you are looking for an anchor, looking for that close person who will be there for you when you have a hard day, when you are sad or happy. There is no one who doesn’t know Avital, my roommate-friend-family member. My friends became her friends, and her friends became my friends – a package deal
