stanza 1
If you sit down at set of sun
And count the acts that you have done,
And, counting, find
One self-denying deed, one word
That eased the heart of him who heard,
One glance most kind
That fell like sunshine where it went —
Then you may count that day well spent.

The picture depicts a man sitting at sunset alone. In our opinion the man who sits alone lives without a wife and children. He comes every day after a tiring and busy day at work to watch the sunset and think to himself, to wonder how his day went, did he hurt anyone during the day? What goals did he achieve and what could he have improved or done differently?
In addition, he planned his day carefully and set goals. To sum up, we believe that this time he takes for himself to draw insights from his day helped him the day after to prove himself and also to be a better person to others.

The picture takes place at sunset. In our opinion, it describes a man who went abseiling in the mountains and it didn’t go well. Some person or his friend, notices what is happening and comes to his aid and offers help. If this person had not noticed, we assume that the man would have fallen off the mountain and been injured. Additionally, the person who helped the guy who fell made him feel like someone cared about him. His day went well because he did a kind deed. He could have chosen not to risk himself and approach the cliff but chose to lend a hand to his friend and thus made his day a day well spent.
“If you sit down at set of sun
And count the acts that you have done … One self-denying deed, one word”
The two images are those that occur at the set of sun as in the quote. Both images express the quote in that the people depicted in the images can sit at the end of the day and wonder what kind deeds for someone else they performed during the day. The man who thinks how to be a better person the next day and the man who came to the aid of his friend and spent his day well. Both pictures describe the quote in our everyday life and how it is reflected in the events that can happen in our lives.
Stanza 2
But if, through all the livelong day,
You’ve cheered no heart, by yea or nay —
If, through it all
You’ve nothing done that you can trace
That brought the sunshine to one face–
No act most small
That helped some soul and nothing cost —
Then count that day as worse than lost.

The picture shows an old man sitting alone in gloomy weather and holding a flower in his hand. The street is deserted and there is not a single person wandering around. We conclude that the man is lonely and lives alone. The flower which he received was from someone who made him feel loved thanks to this deed. In our opinion the old man remembers those moments when he had a smile on his face and felt that there was someone with him who cared for him. The old man wants to make another person also feel loved for one moment as he felt, but he can’t find anyone to give him the flower he received..

In the picture there is a woman lying in her bed looking mortified. First, in our opinion, the woman has a difficult day, on the one hand it could be that someone hurt her, on the other hand it could be that she hurt someone and therefore she is upset. She can’t think of anything she did for the other person that made him smile. If she planned her day tomorrow to make someone else feel loved, she would be satisfied and fulfilled And also her day will not be wasted.
“No act most small. That helped some soul and nothing cost. Then count that day as worse than lost.”
Both pictures depict people who didn’t make anyone feel loved during their day. The woman whose day was complicated and therefore didn’t pay attention to those around her, the old man who can’t find anyone to give him the flower he received. Their day was worse than lost because they didn’t make a joyful smile that would make them joyful too..
