Learning Objectives:
By the end of this story students should be able to identify a firefighter, a veterinarian, a baker, a gardner and an artist. They will gain the encourage to explore all professions and find their passions.
One Spring morning, the principal of Reinhard Elementary School had an exciting idea to help her students learn about different careers. She decided to dedicate a week for students to discover all different careers.
Each day of the week, a professional from a different field would visit the school and share their experiences with the students.
On Monday, a firefighter arrived with his shiny red uniform and helmet. He talked about his brave work of saving lives and shared personal stories of his rescues. The children watched him demonstrate how to use a fire extinguisher. He finished his visit by demonstrating how to do “Stop, Drop & Roll.”

On Tuesday a veterinarian visited Reinhard. She brought in her cat and dog to show all the students. She explained how she cared for all kinds of animals, from the tiniest hamsters to the largest horses. The students were able to pet the animals as they learned about the importance of compassion and responsibility.

On Wednesday a baker came with all delicious treats. She brought her baker’s hat and apron. The students watched in amazement while she measured all the ingredient and cracked the eggs. She taught them basic cooking skills and encouraged them to try cooking at home with their parents.

On Thursday an artist came to meet the students. He brought canvases, brushes, and colorful paints. The students had a blast experimenting with different painting techniques, especially using their fingers to fingerprint. He emphasized the importance of expressing oneself through art.

On Friday a gardener came to visit the students. She explained how plants grow and the role of a gardener in maintaining a garden. The students got their hands dirty planting flowers and vegetables. They were able to keep there plants and can watch them grow during the weeks.
As the week came to an end, the students were filled with excitement and newfound knowledge about various careers. They had experienced being a firefighter, a veterinarian, a chef, an artist, and a gardener. They realized that there were countless paths they could choose in the future.
