Do you remember the absolute first time you ever listened to a classic hit?

I do.

I remember the first time I heard the song A Day In The Life, by The Beatles.

Before I tell you about that fateful day, let me take you back to May 26th, 1967.

The Beatles had just released their 8th studio album named Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the last song of which was named A Day In The Life.

While this song is widely regarded as one of the Beatles’ best hits, my views on this song align with a particular (top) comment left on its official music video on YouTube:

“This song is dark, haunting and beautiful.”

Let me explain…

February 6th, 2014. An infamous day that will forever be engraved in my forgetful memory.

My friend Roee decided his life was not worth it anymore, and proceeded to commit suicide.

This event completely changed countless lives, including mine.

Many times in life great pain is channeled to create masterpieces.

A single seed of pain can blossom into an eternal classic, whether it be a painting by Vincent Van Gogh:

Or one of my favorite songs of all time:

Fast forward 75 days, to April 21st, 2014.

Still in shambles, my friends and I were still processing what had happened, and were still picking up our broken pieces.

And then I heard it.

“I read the news today, oh boy”

But the thing is, the first time I heard these lyrics wasn’t from the song A Day In The Life.

It was a remix of the song that was made by two of his friends that went to his school.

Allow me to introduce you to one of the most influential songs I have ever come across: Promise Tomorrow, by No Trace.

Brendan and Michael masterfully managed to take one of the most recognizable songs in history and add a whole other dimension to it that would make it relevant to *literally every teenager in the world*.

A quote from the description of their YouTube music video:

“This past school year, Newton, Massachusetts has experienced 3 teen suicides. After the last suicide hit home for us, we decided we would make this song and start up this idea of ‘Promise Tomorrow’. We wanted to take this tragic event and put a positive spin on it, and hope that it can help people who are dealing with depression and/or suicide.”

“Promise Tomorrow”, the name of NoTrace’s track, is built on their idea that we can always promise ourselves and others that we will be here tomorrow.

There is always something worth living for that we can experience tomorrow, or some other time in the future: significant enough for us to not make any rash and brazen decisions that could impact everyone’s lives.

And on that note, I would like to finish this ebook.

Promise tomorrow.

And then the day after that.
