Life of a Tree for 3rd Grade

Geared towards 3rd Grade
As students learn about nature, and science they start to learn to understand the life cycle of nature as a whole. In this unit the students will learn about the life cycle of a tree. They will then analyze the role it has in our everyday lives.
Includes: Book, Discussion questions, and Follow-up activity
Learning Objectives:
After this lesson students will be able to:
- Explain and understand the importance of a tree
- Comprehend the difference between oxygen and carbon dioxide
- Identify the factors needed for trees to grow
The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein

Discussion:
- Are trees living or non-living?
- What do trees need to be able to survive?
- What do trees provide for humans and the environment?
Follow-up activity:
- Provide a piece of paper and titled it “What do trees give us…”, allow them to draw their own tree with branches, and cut out small “leafs”, and label each “leaf” with the things that we get from trees. Then, glue the “leafs” onto the branches.
