Michal Rubin invited me to a strategy meeting with the Taub Center, Israel’s not-for-profit think tank. How could I say no to her? So I said ‘maybe’. She subsequently told me that they were interested in Ourboox. I said “Yes”.

Luckily I didn’t have to travel to their offices in Jerusalem. We convened at the offices of Blonde 2.0, a famous marketing agency in Tel Aviv. I met the co-CEOs Ayelet Noff and Motti Peer. Oh, and Jedi the dog, who appears to be a minor shareholder. The folks at Blonde 2.0 help the Taub Center ‘pro bono’. And in the case of Jedi, ‘pro bone’.

Some of the people at the meeting were from the Center itself. Others were invited guests, including as Itamar, Shirli, and Snoonit. I sat next to Prof. Avi Weiss. He is definitely from the Taub Center. He runs it.

We were there to talk about the internet, social media, publishing, the future. Avi opened with a traditional oral powerpoint presentation. It was very interesting, perhaps a bit on the long side. But hey, as I just mentioned, he is a full professor and he does run the joint.

The Taub Center does its level best to provide objective statistics on the society of Israel, its welfare, health, and education. I don’t know whether statistics can be objective (what would statisticians say about the cleanliness of these pots and pans I saw on my way to the meeting?). On the other hand, they do employ the most qualified experts in the country and they appear to be impartial and highly professional.

We talked about how the Taub Center might reach out more effectively to a wider audience using the internet. They do offer prizes for student animations based on their findings. That is so cool. I talked (non-objectively) about using e-books, such as this one. After all, you can’t embed a video in a book made out of paper, can you?

We brainstormed. We thought between the boxes (Taub has a lot of boxes to think between).

It was, all in all, an exciting session with a really amazing initiative and lovely group of people. So thank you Avi, Itay, Itamar, Shirli, Shachar, Motti, Suzi, Snoonit, Michal, Hadas, Tamar and Lior. Hope to see you again real soon!
