It was a long time ago.
I have almost forgotten my dream.
But it was there then,
In front of me,
Bright like a sun—
My dream.

And then the wall rose,
Rose slowly,
Slowly,
Between me and my dream.
Rose until it touched the sky—
The wall.
Shadow.
I am black

I lie down in the shadow.
No longer the light of my dream before me,
Above me.
Only the thick wall.
Only the shadow

My hands!
My dark hands!
Break through the wall!
Find my dream!
Help me to shatter this darkness,
To smash this night,
To break this shadow
Into a thousand lights of sun,
Into a thousand whirling dreams
Of sun!

Dear Langston Hughes ,

Hi , my name is Maria , recenly I read your perfect poem “AS I Grew Older” and I liked it so much , because of that I decided to send you this letter.

When I started reading this poem , I thought that you wouldn’t succeed and will fail due to the obstacles like the wall , racsim , and darkness in your way to reach your dream .

So in the begining I was so sad for you , but when I finished reading the poem I was shocked because you did it , you worked so hard in addition that you didn’t give up and finally you made your dream come true .

your poem changed me so much and taught me that I shouldn’t stop and i have work hard and to face all the obstacles in my way to reach my dream .

In addition it taught me that I have to be brave and hopeful.

This poem gave me the faith of my power that I can do anything if I want it.

My Dream 

When I was a child a lot of small dreams .

But when I grew up my dreams changed.

In 10 years I want to be a successful woman that holds high grads from the university and to work in my special office or in any other work that makes my parents proud of me such as a doctor.

I want to travel around the world and to see the world live in peace without war . In addition I want to see everyone love each other because I think that everyone of us deverse to live free without fear.
