                               THE SICILY

Sicily officially called the Sicily Region, is a region with special status, with capital Palermo.
The region is made almost entirely from the island namesake, the largest island of Italy and the Mediterranean, as well as the 45th largest island in the world; the remainder is made by the Aeolian islands, Egadi and Pelagian Islands and the islands of Ustica and Pantelleria. It is the largest region of Italy and its territory is divided into 390 municipalities. It bounded on the north by the Tyrrhenian Sea, west of the Strait of Sicily, south from the Sea of Sicily, on the east by the Ionian Sea and north-east by the Strait of Messina that separates it from Calabria.
