I am from a swing set built by the hands of a loving man,
from warm Campbell’s Soup on a sick day,

and Corduroy stories at Grandma’s.

I am from the old-fashioned.

I am from the tree house built with my siblings, and the creek where we adventured.

I am from piano playing and brown eyes,

from humble and chaotic.
From “life’s not fair” and Sunshine songs.

I am from the “everybody knows everybody” town, where we all eat at the same bar.

From the campgrounds, and the rivers,

and the backroads.
I am from a hope chest of memories.
