No Story in my Story

By one of our students 

I was born in a green and beautiful country in Eastern Europe

and came to Israel in the age of 8.

I was of a different religion

and converted to Judaism.

My name was Maria

and now it’s Moran.

I had no Jewish identity and I created my identity by myself.

All the stories of my parents

                         or grandparents

                                       weren’t significant to me in forming my identity —

Because I chose a different path.

I feel that I am the first story in a brand new book.
