My grandfather, may his soul rest in peace, used to tell me a lot of stories about himself and about our family. This story is about my grandfather in his youth and how his unbelievable belief in God’s fate saved him from death.

My Grandfather was older than the state of Israel itself. In his youth, this land was still governed by the Ottomans and although they were Muslims; they used to slaughter and execute the citizens and people regularly.

One of these people living under Ottoman rule was my grandfather. Since he was young, he used to always say: ” God’s fate is inevitable. Thus, accept it with an open heart and never stop believing in God”.

His story is that one day, he was dragged out of his house by soldiers. They closed his eyes and took him to a nearby field to execute him with other youngsters.

When the soldiers lined the youngsters against a wall to execute them, my grandfather kept praying in his heart for a miracle to happen.

Suddenly another soldier came running and yelling while holding a piece of paper! That piece of paper was their SALVATION. It was signed by the army and the order was to cancel the execution.

Since then, my grandfather’s faith only grew and it was very important for him that his children and grandchildren try to accept G-d’s fate with an open heart and never stop believing.
