Dr. Dennis Hanover was born in South Africa in 1937, and all of Dennis’s father’s family, except for his sister, perished in the Holocaust.Denis had a difficult childhood, full of suffering and manifestations of anti-Semitism, which taught him a chapter on survival.

Dennis began his glorious career in the world of sports and fighting as a youth in the sports competitions of “Hashomer Hatzair” in South Africa and later as the South African Judo champion in his weight and as a member of the national team of South Africa. In 1958 he opened the first Jewish Judo and Self-Defense Club and in 1960 immigrated to Israel. In 1961 he was the Jewish judo champion.

In Israel he worked to introduce Judo as a competitive branch in the Maccabiah Games, participated in games, organized karate competitions and was one of the founders of the Judo Association and the Karate Association in Israel. In 1975 he was the captain of the Israeli national team at the first karate kyu kushanai karate (full touch) championship in Japan, and in his special combat spirit he was recognized as one of the seven best in the field.

Dennis was one of the founders of the Wingate Institute for Martial Arts and Self-Defense. In 1983, the European Association for Jujutsu recognized the Dennis Survival method.
