Introcuction 

Every person has in his life some dreams that want to attain , that dream come as result of our life and the difficulties that we can’t face without making this dream real . 

We must know that every dream requires hard work to achieve it , we must face all the 

difficulties , we must change our life and make our program to attain our dream , we can 

dream anything and achieve it if we are determined and work for it , for working we must 

have a plan and behave by it , we must not give up , we must try and continue try without stopping any second . 

We are who make the reason to be stuck , and we are only who can motivate ourselves and start working . 

The road to success is through commitment and through the size of the desire to make our dreams real . 

This book is an activity on the story : ” A summer’s reading ” , this story wrote by Bernard Malamud , i think this story and this activity can motivate us to dream and start working for this .

Excercise H p.48 :(comparison between my goals and goerge’s goals)

The goals of Goerge in his life are represented in the american dream which means to

be successful person in the life , it mean also to have a big house with a family , to have

a job to earn money(satisfaction in the job) , being respected by others .

My goals is to have a high-paying job , a loving family , good friends , a nce house ,being repected by other , and being powerful , so most of goal in the list i want to achieve .

I think that my goals are similar to Goerge’s goal .

However i have a dream that relates to my religion i want to be in the list , which is

to make my God satified about me , and win the heaven in end (to have the big pleasure forever) , this dream is not mentioned in the list ,and also isn’t a dream for George .

Post Reading

 1. Diary entries for three different days in George’s life :

entry 1 : Tonight , while i was travelling like always in the neighborhood

i met Mr.Cattanzara who was always giving me nickels to buy lemon ice

when i was kid .

He was in his way to his home after a long day of working , so he asked me what i’m

doing this summer , i didn’t know what to answer , except this lie -i said that i have

a list of 100 books that i will read this summer to pick up my education- , i only said

this to impress him though i didn’t want to lie .

entry 2 : Yesterday , when i was travelling like what i did  always since i left school ,

i met with Mr.Cattanzara , he was in a bad situation , his smell was like a barrel of beer ,

though i was so afraid to face him , i didn’t stop walking considering that he will not ask me any question , however he surprised me when i heard him calling my name , in this second  i wanted so much to run away , but i didn’t , i turned myself to answer , he gave me a nickel to buy a lemon ice !! therefore he asked me about the books and how are they coming along now , after that he asked me to name a book to him to ask me about it,i didn’t know what to say , i closed my eyes , then i heard him saying : “George , don’t

do what i did” , when i opned my eyes he was gone , i think he discovered my lie i don’t

know what to do .

entry 3 : The fire outside the room , inside the room ,and inside me , all of this burning me , i can’t go outside , i’m so embarrassed , i shouldn’t lie anymore , i must begin to read , Mr.Cattanzara discovered my lie , maybe he told the neighbors about this , i don’t know what to do .

2. A message from George to Mr.Cattanzara ten years after the story ends :

Dear Mr.Cattanzara ,

hey , how are you ? , how is your life now ? , i hope you are fine…

It’s been ten years have past since you have turned my life from darkness

to the light , when you have told me to not do what you did , you are the great guy who changed my life , your words affected me and motivated my mind and my body , to begin

reading , and stop sleeping . In  the first time i begun  reading, when i escaped to the library , i was shaking , my body was so weak , so supine , the only think who supported me is your words , they commanded me to not get back , they said to me to try and continue try , even if i was struggling , every time i read , i discovered things that i never

heard about it , after a hard season of fighting my self , i begun to love reading i started to read more and more , many things had made me interested in reading , then i decided to get back to school and continue my learning , and that’s what i did i completed my school and then was the surprise to my family , i told them i want to go the university ,

they were happy and so proud – i’m the first person in the neighborhood who will complete his learning and work through it – , and now , i think you read about me , and about what i

, i want to say thank you for what you did , you are reading the message now and smiling , i want to tell you that the poverty in our neighborhood will disappear , i will make you all rich , i just send some workers to ubgrade our neighborhood , to make the houses better

and beautiful , and to rebuild the streets , also i will make my own factory just because to provide for our neighbors more work with more salary .

I want you to stop drinking because that’s not the solution for your problems , you must

work hard to solve it , like what you learned me , you must not drink ,when i open my factory i will provide to you an easier job with bigger salary .

I hope you stop drinking , and i wait for your reply !
