Different ending to act III
Mother: It’s up to you, if you tell him to stay he’ll stay. Go and tell him!
Chris: Nobody could stop him now.
Mother: You’ll stop him! How long will he live for in prison? Are you trying to kill him?
Chris: (holding out letter) I thought you read this!
Mother: (of Larry, the letter) The war is over! Didn’t you hear? It’s over!
(a sudden knock is heard behind mother and Chris)
A strange voice: The war isn’t over
Mother: (gasping) Larry?!
Chris: What’s going on here?
Larry: Yes. It’s me.
Chris: But… The letter. Where have you been all this time?
Mother: Oh Larry, look at you!
Larry: Nothing about my disappearance matters, as much as father’s words matter. You do not understand, mom; The war will never be over if people like father will continue only caring for their own business. People will die, for nothing. Every person will mind his own life and that’s the scariest war mom! Don’t you understand? Nothing is over. All we see is ourselves and our children only. Only our own sons. I will not be a part of this family, this life, this world, until people like father will understand that he should have thought about these 21 pilots as his sons. They are all his sons! But now they’re dead.
(A shot is heard in the house. They stand frozen for a brief second)
Mother: Oh Joe!!
Chris: Father…
Larry: The world is better now…
