Diversity in the Netherlands The Netherlands attracts international students today as a multi-cultural structure, including Moroccans, Indians, Turks and European Union citizens, as well as the tolerated center of happiness for the world’s happiest people. Although the country’s official language is Dutch, approximately 89% of the population is English and 70% is German. Generally, for foreign students, universities offer English language and post-graduate program options, while English language skills will be sufficient for multinational companies to enter after graduation. Life in the Netherlands is more affordable than countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States, but not very cheap. Boat tours and nature trips are especially popular in the country where social life is particularly active in the big cities, where cafes and bars are busy. One of the most interesting topics to come to the Netherlands is the free use of drugs in the country under state control. At the same time gay marriage became legal here in 2001 for the first time. In the Netherlands where life is equally felt in every area, life is very comfortable among international students. Symbols of the Country From Windmills to Windmills In Dutch culture, my mind comes first with lanterns, windmills and wooden clogs. The lilies known as the symbol of the country do not belong to the Netherlands unlike what is known. Firstly, in the 16th century Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent sent to the king of the Netherlands, especially the Netherlands and Europe, mainly affected by the ‘tulip mania’ madness has caused. While the bulbs of charming beauty lilies are sold for a house price in the 1600’s, today Tulip Festival is celebrated in Amsterdam between April 1 and May 14 every year. Another symbol of the country is the windmills. There are over 1850 windmills still standing above 1000. Today, there are 19 traditional windmills on the UNESCO World Heritage list. At the same time, the precise root of the wooden cloaks, known as ‘klompen’, which was based on 800 years earlier, is unknown, but it is the rooted values of the Dutch culture.

Although the Dutch food culture does not have a wide variety of flavors, the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to the Netherlands is the cheese they have been producing since milestone 400 and the cows called Holstein. Among the most popular Dutch cheeses are Gouda, which is slightly sweet and slightly oily, Edam which is both sweet and salty, Maasdam with perforated cheeses, Leidse with a little caraway in it and Delft with blue caviar. Among the traditional delicacies are the ‘stamppoten’ consisting of cabbage, boiled potatoes and sausages while the best known snack of the country is served with mayonnaise while the small crepes called ‘poffertjes’ are sprinkled with powdered sugar. Beer consumption is the most common, while seafood and boiled red meat are preferred because it is generally a port country. If you are in Holland, we recommend you to try a variety of pastries and cookies consisting of almond paste, almonds and chocolate.

Great Cities If you have an idea of life in the Netherlands, you can expect the cities of the country to be beautiful tolerant and cultured, with high quality of life. The city of Amsterdam is located in the top 50 in the world’s best student cities; cafes, canals, night life, colorful historical buildings from the 17th century, flowered balconies, mirrors and Dam Square. The capital city of the Netherlands is also the most important city in terms of culture and finance. Rotterdam, one of the largest port cities in Europe, has been rebuilt in the aftermath of World War II and has attained its present-day appearance with modern structures. Utrecht is the fascinating city of the Netherlands with its canals; rural life, ancient city center, castles, palaces and historical texture attract students.
