summary:

asummers reading is about a young man George Stoyonovich feels like people do not respect him in his neighborhood because he does not have a job and has not finished school.George feels like school was a wasted of time because he didnt like teachers telling hi, what to do and school did not teach him the important things of life.he has tried some jobs but couldnt manage to stay long. he feels ashamed but doesnt really try to find ajob or to pick up his formal education .he likesMr Cattanzara the change maker who is different from the other people in the neighood.George want Mr Cattanzara to respect him so one evening he lies to him and says he is reading 100 books the lie has important effect on George life both in the short and long term.

George Stoyonvich:

the meaning os Stoyonovich in polish is ”Staying in one place” george is a nineteen year old high school dropout living aimlessly in the working class neighbrhood in Brooklyn.he did not like the ”considered registering in a night hight school ” but he did not like the idea of the teachers always telling him what to do he felt they had not respected him.

Sophie Stoyonovich :

george’s elder sister a ”tall bony girls of twenty-three” who works at acafeteria in Bronx.she has to take care of the house because thrie mother was dead she sometimes reads”good books”

Mr Cattanzara :

the meaning of Cattanzara in Italians is ”chanined to a place” Mr Cattanzara is a stocky bald-headed man who worked in achange booth on an IRT (subway) station ”living on the next block to george’s he reads the NEW YORKTIEMS ”from the first page to the last” in short he is the ”intellectual” of the neighborhood.

Another ending for the story :-

one night after staying in his room for 3 days he Has spent all this time thinking about his future and found himself and wake up from the coma he was just need some time to think straight, just need a moment in his space he promiss him self to be better person he go to sophie and told her: im soory for all the time i waste I just need some time, I’m tryna think straight
I just need a moment in my own space Sometimes I think back to the old days In the pointless conversations with the old me Look, as a kid I used to think life Is moving so slow I thought the world was so small, through my closed eyes I’ve always tried to control things In the end that’s what controls me Maybe that’s why I’m controllin’  The older I get, I feel like I’m always tryna save time Talkin’ to the voices in my head, they make me think twice
Tellin’ me it doesn’t mean it’s wrong because it feels right I was scared that one day I’ll wake up and wonder where’d the time go and her we are i realized how lazy and pointless i am but i will go now to the Library and read books I promise you will become a better person.

After many years…….

George left the neighborhood and  learned he  became a cultured man also got married and has a nice  family .ofcourse will never forget Mr. Catanzara who was the reason that he become another person and to realize what he can become .
