COLD MORNING RESCUE

PART ONE

It was very cold outside.There was snow all around.

Fifteen-year-old Gray was very worried.His father

was missing, but it was too dark outside to send

out a helicopter.

“GRAY”, said Sheriff Dowd. Your dad went out in his

plane. Does he always have survival equipment in it?”

“Yes. He has a sleeping bag, a rifle, some food and…”

“Good”, said the sheriff. “Do you know where he was going?”

“Yes, he was flying back from Copper City. He usually flies over the creek,”

Gray answered.

“That’s not where the radar saw him,” said Ted Nicholes, one of the men on the

rescue team. “We think he flew east. we’ll send out the helicopter in a few hours-

when the sun comes up.” Nichols turned to the other men.” All right, let’s begin

looking for him.”

Gray felt sick, He knew that his dad flew over the creek, and it was west, not east.

” What can I do? he asked.

“How old are you, boy? You must be 16 years old to go out with us. Thats the rule,”

said Sheriff Dowd.

” I will be 16 soon…” Gray said quietly.

” I think it’s best for you to stay here. Somebody might call with news,” said the sheriff.

Gray wanted to cry. ” But it’s my dad!” he thought. He put on his coat and went outside.
