Interviewer: Dr. Fox, you are an expert in reading body language. What does that mean?
Dr. Fox: I know what to look for in person`s body movements and facial expressions and I pay attention to both carefully. I understand what they mean and this helps me to guess what a person is really thinking and feelings. Sometimes the FBI asks me to question a suspect to see if he or she is lying.
Interviewer: how do you know when a suspect is lying?
Dr. Fox: there are many ways. I look at people`s eyes – especially their eyes. a person`s eyes send different messages. When a suspect makes eye contact, it means he or she is telling the truth. When a person doesn’t look directly at me, perhaps he or she has a secret.
Interviewer: what else can you learn from a person`s face?
Dr. Fox: when people really smile, their face – from the mouth to the eyes – moves. when a smile isn’t authentic and someone is lying ,only their mouth moves. another thing I look at person`s forehead .sometimes people sweat when they are lying.
Interviewer: Are there any other body movements that you pay attention to?
Dr. Fox when a person tells a lie ,their mouth become dry so they swallow a lot, and when someone puts their hand over their mouth, it can also mean that they are hiding something.
