The Lovely Bones

Our fascination with the concept of the after life and the personification of heaven was demonstrated and portrayed in many occasions on movies, books, plays and other TV shows where the audiences appear to be transfixed and never seem to lose their absolute adoration for life in heaven after death.

One such movie “The Lovely Bones” depicts the story of a young girl by the name of Susie Salmon was murdered in 1973 by her next door neighbor but had never been found by her family and neither by the authorities.

In the movie Susie’s soul hadn’t crossed fully to the other side, leaving her in between worlds, the world of the living and heaven itself. fro the world in between she tries to warn her family and give them clues as to the identity of her murderer.

There is a great depiction of this very unique “In between” world were her soul is apparently trapped and lay in waiting for her eventual release.

Writer-Director Peter Jackson touches this subject matter in a well written script which raised quite a few eye brows among many people and raised some criticism on a part of the religious community.

For this project Jackson selected Saoirse Ronan to play the role of Susie Salmon. Along with Mark Wahlberg as Jack samon, Susie’s father and Rachel Weisz as Abigail Salmon, Susie’s mother, he set the stage for one of the most breath taking cinematic experiences.
