Students will discuss and vote inside their groups and finally they’ll present their ideal nation. 

But we need food for thought, we can’t miss good chances to be better citizens. Thanks to Professor Alemanno we had an opportunity to muse and being inspired. (Unfortunately we can’t share here the link of the webinar because it was in Italian – however we can show some useful links)

Thanks to the Italian eTwinning support we had the chance to follow a very inspirational webinar with Professor Alberto Alemanno, Jean Monnet  Professor in EU Law at HEC Paris and also Global Clinical Professor of Law at New York University School of Law and permanent Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo, School of Public Policy and at the College of Europe. www.albertoalemanno.eu​

He is an academic, author and politic activist. He is internationally known for his scholarly and public interest work on the democratization of the European Union, the use of law to advance the public interest, in areas such as risk regulation, public health, consumer rights and food policy as well as legal education reform. He has developed the theory of citizen lobbying to rethink representative democracy in the national and transnational space.

Nowadays it is crucial we think critically, access and analyze data. An independent critical thought is necessary to participate fully in the democratic process.

Here below we have uploaded an example of the activity ‘Fake news challenge’. One student introduces six newspaper articles (three from broadsheets and three from tabloids). His/her classmates are asked to detect the fake piece of news.

eTwinning event: on site

First part of the event : dissemination.

We invited other students, class presidents and teachers to this event. We showed the driving question of the ‘Living Democracy’ Project and the activities we carried out to support the idea of the importance of democracy in our country. We also highlighted the opportunities given by the eTwinning platform regarding the sharing of information, cooperation and communication among partners. We introduced the partners who cooperated with us in the project:

Second part of the event: The Journey of Memory

We travelled along the path of democracy, we created our own ideal state, we visited the palace of Lombardy regional government, we made our democratic parties and we voted. We understood the importance of freedom of speech and the dangers of fake news. We shared our ideas about democracy with our partners in the double interviews and we met them through Skype because our love for democracy has no boundaries.

There was a last journey we wanted to make, a warning against indifference, that voter and information apathy which can be really dangerous.

So Anna and Stefano, who participated to the journey of memory, gave us the opportunity to muse on the mistakes of the past in order to avoid them in the future. They shared this experience because we wanted to end the project Living Democracy with this key idea:

without democracy it’s impossible to have the basic rights respected.

This short video is about THE FOIBE. Between 1943 and 1945 thousands of Italians living in Trieste, Gorizia and the Istrian peninsula (northeast) were tortured, shot or pushed to their deaths in rocky chasms by communists determined to cleanse Yugoslavia of its Italian population. Some were sympathisers of Benito Mussolini’s fascist regime in Italy. Others were innocent civilians. They were left, some still alive to rot in natural ditches known in Italian as foibe.

If we look back to the 20th century we see pages of history we’d prefer to forget,but we cannot and should not forget.
