It was here! As soon as dad opened the box my eyes lid up.My dad finally, after decades of my dad being alone, without a G.I JOE Space Capsule, was finally recieve one. My dad was crying tears of joy. But lets rewind a little bit. Let me tell you a story about my dad and a big block of bricks preventing him from ever getting his river of dreams moment. How I saw a little speck of hope left and I pulled it out of him.
My dad always wanted a G.I. JOE Space Capsule ever since he was a little kid. Sadly, my dad did not have the money when he was a kid to recive it. And even sadder was that a cheap toy from the 1970s that probably cost $10.99 was now rare and vintage and cost $100.99 even in poor, used condition. So this pricing prevents my dad from getting his G.I. JOE Space Capsule and he often talked about it. His dream was hopeless, or so he thought.

Another day at school in the fourth grade and today was the day of the week where we go into the library and pick out a book. So I waked into the library to look for a book that I am intrested in.So looked high and low and…bin-go!, I found the book that I had intrest in. It was a book about space exploration and what astronauts did up there in outerspace. It was so cool! I had been intersted in space ever since I was a kid. So as soon as I got home I cracked open my book to start reading it. It was amazing. It had everything from space travel to do it yourself how to build a rocket. I just loved it, but my favorite part was the section where they talked about the toys that were inspired by astronauts and outer space. My favorite toy on there was the Astronaut Barbie, with her silver and pink space suit. As I was reading I kept on thinking about my dad and his G.I. Joe Space Capsule.

“Dad, why don’t you get a G.I. Joe Space Capsule?” My dad was speechless for a moment.
“Shannon, we just can’t. I want one, but…”
“Dad, come on. Do you want to live with this sadness all your life?” Dad stared down at the floor and I walked out of the room.
I came back stronger this time. “Dad, you talk about the space capsule too much. You regret not ever getting the toy of your dreams.”
Dad let out a big sigh, “well I guess after all these years, I think it is time we get one.” I was stunned. Dad was finally going to get a G.I. Joe Space Capsule.

Me and my dad went on Amazon to pick out a good one. It took us awhile to finally pick it out, but we did it. Mom said to deliver it to my aunt’s house so it could be somewhat of a surprise, a Christmas present. I was upset that Dad had to wait two more months for his dream toy.
Dad said to me in a nice, gentle voice, “Shannon, thank you so much for making this dream come true.”
“I thought that after so many years, Dad, you just had to buy it.” Me and Dad hugged each other real tight, both of us really happy for the rest of the day.
It was my Dad’s birthday, and my Mom and I planned to give him his space capsule on his birthday as a surprise since his birthday is only a couple of weeks before Christmas. Me and my sister Mallory worked on a plan to surprise Dad. We decided that after we give Dad all his presents that we say one more, and then give him the toy that Dad has been waiting years for. Dad wasn’t expecting it today.
Dad opened all his presents realizing there was none left until Mallory came into the room with one more wrapped present. Dad looked at it and opened it. It was “the present.” Dad was cheering and so was I. Who knew that after all these years he finally got the gift he always wanted. My Dad got the G.I. Joe Space Capsule.

People may wonder why I cared so much about this toy that my Dad really wanted. But there is more to it than just a toy. My Dad and I always bond about outer space. We always play the game, “Robot”, and pretend that we are in outer space. Every year for his birthday we kids make him birthday cards. He would always say, “make me a picture of a G.I. Joe Space Capsule”. My Dad deserves more than a picture of a G.I. Joe Space Capsule. He deserves the real thing and he should always be treated that way.
