Pictographic writing.
The earliest period is pictographic writing in the form of cave paintings in primitive people. Different tribes had their own drawings.

There is a tendency to simplify characters.. 

Ideographic writing.
In the era of the formation of states and the development of trade, pictographic writing was replaced by ideographic writing – writing using ideograms. One written sign denoted a whole word.
