Who are the Amish people?

The Amish people are an Protestant Christian community.

 The Amish people live in North America.

 They are known as people who keep a simple life. They don’t use electronic device or any other technology.

 The Amish don’t use cars, to get from place to place they use horse and cart.

 They are very closed community and they focus on family and community. The Amish usually work on farms and raise animals.  You can usually identify them according to their clothes. They wear traditional clothing.

Where did they come from originally?

The Amish came originally from Switzerland and Germany.

Until the 17th century, they were part of another group – the Mennonites. Mennonites are Christians . Today, the Amish are not part of the Mennonites anymore, because the Amish committed to there religion and community, and they are against if anyone leaves the Amish community. The Mennonites are more open and modern than the Amish people.

Where do the Amish live?
The Amish people are mostly living in United States, Canada (South America).
Today the largest community is in Indian, alongside a large community of mennonites. The Amish people live in 22 different countries, far away from big cities. Because they want farmland and small communities.

Why the Amish choose this way of life?
The Amish choose this way of life because they belive in special principles (different from the outside world), their way of life is without modern things and technology. Their principles: The importance of the family, agriculture, Modesty, and old lifestyle. Their hard rules keep them together, and if someone doesn’t listen to the rules the Amish people expel him.

The Amish lifestyle 

The Amish people keep a very simple life.

They wear traditional clothing and dressed in an old fashioned way. For example, the women wear caplets and long dresses and the men wear  hats.

The Amish live in a large area because they work in agriculture and raise many animals.

The Amish live in ordinary houses, but without modern technology. 

The Amish children learn at school until they are 12-13 years old, and then they help at home and on the farm. They help a lot on the farm because in the future they need to be able to work on their own farm.

The Amish and Technology:

The Amish don’t use technology or electronic devices at all. They don’t have phones, computers or even cars. To get from place to place they use a horse and cart.
If they don’t use technology at all then what do they do when they get sick?
The Amish people get their medical services from Mennonites (the group from which they originally came) Mennonites do use technology.
