Football career
At the age of 4, he started training at the local club Abanderado Grandoli where he was trained by his father, although his earliest influence as a player came from his mother’s grandmother Celia, who accompanied him to training and matches. At the age of six, Lionel moved to the far more popular club in his hometown of Newell’s old Boys. However, his future as a professional player was in jeopardy when he was diagnosed with growth hermone deficiency at the age of 10. Because his father’s health insurance only covers two years of growth hormone treatment. Messi’s talent was soon noticed by the first director of the scout team of FC Barcelona Carles Rexach. In February 2001, the family moved to Barcelona, where they settled in an apartment near the Camp Nou club stadium. Leo scored five goals in his debut in the youth team and thanks to his abilities he proved that he will have a brilliant performance. The management of Barcelona bears the costs of his treatment and gradually the physique of the young footballer strengthens.

Charity
Throughout his career, Messi has participated in charitable activities aimed at vulnerable children, a commitment that stems in part from the medical difficulties he faced in his own childhood. Since 2004, he has contributed time and money to UNICEF, an organization with which Barcelona also has a strong association.
In addition to working with UNICEF, Messi founded his charity, the Leo Messi Foundation, which supports access to health care, education and sports for children. It was established in 2007 after Messi’s visit to a paid children’s hospital in Boston, which resonated with him to such an extent that he decided to reinvest part of his income in society. Through his foundation, Messi awards research, finances medical training and invests in the development of medical centers and projects in Argentina, Spain and elsewhere in the world. In addition to its own fundraising resources, such as its global Messi and Friends football matches, the foundation receives financial support from various companies to which it has authorized its name in approval agreements, with Adidas being a major sponsor.

Why I chose this person in my project?
I chose him because I think he is the best footballer. Despite his illness, he didn’t give up football and continued. He does a lot of charity work for children with diseases. I admire that he works so hard to help people with diseases. Instead of spending money on houses, cars and etc. He donates them. I like people like him and I would like to be like him in the future.
