Bill Gates

William Henry Gates III is an American business magnate, software developer, investor, and philanthropist. He is best known as the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation.

Gates was born in Seattle, Washington, on October 28,

1955.

He lived and grew up in the Sand Point area of Seattle in a home that was damaged by a rare tornado when Gates was seven years old.

He was a National Merit Scholar when he graduated from Lakeside School in 1973. He scored 1590 out of 1600 on the Scholastic Aptitude Tests (SAT) and enrolled at Harvard College in the autumn of 1973. He chose a pre-law major but took mathematics and graduate level computer science courses. Gates left Harvard after two years.

When Gates was 39, he married Melinda French on a golf course on the Hawaiian island of Lanai on January 1,1994.

He was studying at the time the work of Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller, and donated some of his Microsoft stock in 1994 to create the “William H. Gates Foundation.” In 2000, Gates and his wife combined three family foundations and Gates donated stock valued at $5 billion to create the charitable Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Gates, through his foundation, also donated $20 million to Carnegie Mellon University for a new building to be named Gates Center for Computer Science which opened in 2009.

Achievements:

During his career at Microsoft, Gates held the positions of chairmen,chief executive officer(CEO), president and chief software architect, while also being the largest individual shareholder until May 2014.He is one of the best-known entrepreneurs and pioneers of the microcomputer revolution of the 1970s and 1980s.

Since 1987, he has been included in the Forbes list of the world’s wealthiest people.From 1995 to 2017, he held the Forbes title of the richest person in the world all but four of those years.

Later in his career and since leaving day-to-day operations at Microsoft in 2008, Gates pursued a number of philanthropic endeavors. He donated large amounts of money to various charitable organizations and scientific research programs through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, reported to be the world’s largest private charity.

I chose this man for my project because he is the Founder of Microsoft, the iconic technology company, Bill Gates, the richest man in the world for more than two decades. Lately, however, he is better known as a dedicated philanthropist than a businessman. Gates made computers more accessible to everyone by stimulating the rise of the home computer market, and now everyone in the world is determined to have access to the Internet. He is also working on projects aimed at combating global warming and gender inequality.

I admire and respect him a lot for working hard and still being dedicated. I admire him for constantly donating his money to charity. An interesting fact for him is that during his life he has donated to various charities over 30 billion dollars.
