Dear all,

What can I say other than it has been a difficult time for all of us as students, sons and daughters, teachers and parents but I would like to compliment you all for your patience, acceptance, energy, enthusiasm, honesty and for being yourselves throughout our classes online.

I have collected all the individual work from the lessons and put it together in this book for you to keep and remember this particular time we spent together.

Have a look at your and your classmates’ work and reflect remembering our lessons together and the English you noticed and used so well.

All the very best

Rob

I wrote this for you:

Sometimes,

You need to step outside

Get some air,

And remind yourself

Of who you are

And

Who you want to be.

History in the Making

It all happened at the start of March 2020, it was a Thursday morning, when I woke up, my mom told me that my school was closed for at least one week. I was happy. Now school is over, we did the lessons via the computer, but I was not so happy about that as I missed my friends and being at school.

The first picture I received after lockdown was from my mom. In the picture there was my father on the beach. I couldn’t go with them because I had a fever, and my dad wasn’t so happy in the picture. But this weekend I’m going to the beach with my brother, my parents and my uncle! I’m really happy about this.

History in the Making

It was 2020, everything seemed normal: we went to school, we did sports and we met with friends and relatives. The coronavirus seemed a distant thing, in China. At some point, gyms and schools closed, There was a real lock down and we were placed in a quarantine: we could not leave the house!

The last picture I took before lockdown I was on the Basketball field with my team. We had won an important game, our last game. We were all together, we were happy. I miss those moments.

History in the Making

When the corona virus started it was like a joke for us , but when the virus arrived in italy , we understood the power of it. So we started to do video lessons because the school was closed and everything in life changed.

My first photo after the lock down was a selfie with my friends. It was very beautiful to see them after three months and to speak with my friends without using a computer. On this day when I stayed with them it was very nice, because we spoke, played football and took many photos.

History in the Making

From 2019 to 2020 the world had a pandemic emergency linked to the Chinese virus called Coronavirus. For four months we didn’t go to school. Because of the emergency in Italy 230,000 people were infected and about 30,000 died. History can never forget this disaster as all the world was stopped for a year and the economy lost a lot of money, a lot of people lost their jobs and Italy didn’t do anything to support them. The Italian economy will suffer for a long time after this pandemic.

History in the Making

The corona virus originated in China (wuan). We can find this virus in dead animals. In Italy to stop the pandemic we had the quarantine. In the quarantine I couldn’t do the same activities, I couldn’t play basket. In this quarantine we had remote teaching with school and the British Council. I don’t like the quarantine and I hope it will finish soon.

My first photo after the lock down was at the weekend when I ate a pizza with my grandparents because it was my mother’s birthday. After I played videogames and I went to bed.

In February there was a  pandemic: the Coronavirus pandemic. there was a lot of deaths in all the world. Every child couldn’t go to school and we had video lessons because we couldn’t leave the house. This pandemic lasted 3 months. In these three months I always thought about my friends and school.

History in the Making

The coronavirus was a tragic event that changed the year 2020. It was strange for everyone especially for us kids. One of the things we couldn’t do was to go to school, but I went out with friends… No one would ever have expected that a pandemic would have infected the whole world. Despite everything we have been “strong” in every way.

My weekend after lock-down I went with my family to Pozzuoli. First we took the car and then we went to eat with an old friend. I would like to go to the beach next weekend. I don’t like computer games but I prefer chatting with my friends.

I participated in one of the biggest pandemics: the Covid-19. This virus changed a lot people’s lives: we had to stay at home, in quarantine, for about 3 months. I was just 14 and my life changed even more than you can imagine: I couldn’t go back to my school, I couldn’t see my friends for a long time, I couldn’t play sports, I couldn’t go out for any reason. I fell into a sort of depression because I missed my friends a lot.

In 2020 we had a tragedy, the Covid19. It was a virus that closed us in at home. We couldn’t go to school which was ok but we also couldn’t leave home so we couldn’t go to the cinema or meet friends. There were a lot of people who died. In the 2nd phase we could leave home but we had to use a mask on the face.

History in the Making

2020 was an important and difficult year that tested medical knowledge and collaboration around the world. First this year started with a terrible environmental disaster in Australia, where many animals, and of course people, died. Then there was almost the beginning of the third war world, but fortunately it didn’t happen. After these misadventures, when we thought that the worst was over, it came… the Coronavirus (COVID-19). This pandemic began in Wuhan (China) where many people died. But despite this virus being really dangerous, in Italy and in other countries people didn’t care a lot about it because they felt it was too far away from them. Little did they know!!!

I think that it took so long for men and women of all races to get the right to vote, because, during all the century, a lot of “White” people, had too many prejudices. Many men and women of all the races died to try to get this right that should be assured by law. After many protests universal suffrage was indtroduced, but also today there are still a lot of racists. Now we are in the 21st century but many people still die to try to have the same rights that White people have, the same opportunities. During this period we’re assisting a real battle (Black Lives Matter) because once again racist acts have been committed.

I think that today everyone has got a playlist or some favourite songs. I’ve also got a playlist on spotify with many, many songs on it. I don’t think I have a favourite type of music, in fact I change my playlist many times, but there are some songs that have an important meaning for me or that remind me of a good or bad experience. Some people listen to songs on spotify, but I also use Youtube.

My last photo before lockdown was……I was at school with my best friends. I remember it was during the break. It was a sunny day and it was pretty cold, infact I was wearing a black jumper. I would never believed that it was one of our last days together at school. It was a normal day for us, and I’m sure that we were bored hahahaha!

History in the Making

In 2020, when I was thirteen years old ,a new disease, called “Covid-19” started spreading from China, arriving then, in almost every country of the entire Globe. Several of the early cases had visited Huanan Seafood Market, so it was thought to have an animal origin. On February 7, Chinese researchers said the virus could have spread from an infected animal to humans through illegaly trafficked pangolines, prized in Asia for food and medicine. The outbreak of coronavirus disease created a global health crisis that had a deep impact on the way that we perceived our world and everyday lives. It has been, of course a bad experience but I’m sure that I’ve learnt a lot from it.

Due to Corona Virus we haven’t been able to go out that much apart from for primary needs such as buying food etc.. Yesterday I got to go out with my mum to have a walk and since they had opened, to buy some things in the shops. While we were walking we met my friend Laura, who was returning home after volleyball practice. We were both very happy to see each other “physically” because we haven’t since one of my friend’s birthday party. So to “celebrate” we took a selfie that we sent on the WhatsApp group that I had created ,where there are a lot of our elementary school friends. It was wonderful to meet her and chat with her, because we haven’t spoken much during quarantine. I hope to meet her again soon.

The last “normal “photo that I have on my phone was taken in March . In the picture there’s me and my deskmate who is also one of my friends; the picture was taken just before arriving at his place, we had to work on a school project that due to Corona Virus we never finished. I also have another photo of me and some of my classmates out of our school. I really like these photos, even if they aren’t “very beautiful”, because they remind me of when everything was still normal, and also of school days that I spent with them.

A playlist is a list of videos or audio files that can be played back on a media player. In its most general form, an audio playlist is simply a list of songs. I personally have just one playlist on YouTube that I usually change every month , but now I have kept the same one since December, in fact it has more than 100 videos on it. I chose to keep it on YouTube because I usually listen to unpopular songs that aren’t on spotify etc .. and that you can only find on YouTube.

History in the Making

In 2020 I was just a student in high school, everything was normal in the first part of our school year but things were about to change pretty quickly. The virus that was about to hit our country was, at the time, just the subject of small talk and news from China, none of us would have thought that in a couple of weeks it would be the cause of so much chaos and fear. even after lockdown we continued to do our homework and we begun to have online lessons with our teachers, including with the British Council. It wasn’t the same as in school, where you could speak face to face with your classmates and teachers, but it was the only way to continue studying during lockdown.

We finished our school year in a different way from how we had begun but our passion and our Will to learn helped us get through this pandemic.

My last pre-lockdown photo was a photo sent to me by my Mom. It was a photo of a jumper she was buying for me.

After lockdown, many of us could finally go out of our houses and meet their friends. We also started taking photos and sending them to our friends. The first Photo I took once I got out was a Photo of a sunset, which I then sent to my friend. We All had that good feeling when we could finally go out and we wanted to share this moment with our closest friends and relatives.

History in the Making

2020 was a very strange and long year. In January a World War almost started because of some problems between Korea and the Usa when some American missiles killed a Korean politician, luckily in the end there was no conflict but the problems kept coming. Massive fires set fire to a big part of Australia during February and the a virus called Covid-19(which was actually discovered in China in 2019) became a global problem which kept growing until in March it constricted all the world in a social lockdown.

This quarantine was almost over in some countries by June but during this month a lot of anti-racist protests began because of the homicide of an innocent Afro-American man called George Floyd who was killed by a white racist policeman.

The first photo that was taken by me after lockdown is a photo with Teo, Adri and another friend on the beach, it is a photo which means a lot to me, also because it was the first time that me Adri and Teo had gone to the beach together (because when we met at a beach on Capri it was a rocky beach so we couldn’t play together that much), I sent it to my father because he was the one who took me and the boys to the beach that time.

Lorenzo Capano LS4

24

That day was awesome, we all had a lot of fun and I felt like quarantine had totally ended, we played football, volleyball and chatted a lot. It was by far the best day of 2020 because for the first time I was actually feeling good, I wasn’t watching a film, I wasn’t playing videogames but I was actually happy, I had never had this feeling in 2020 because I had always been worried or something like that. I wish I could be forever there.

I’ve chosen a place in the jungle because I am interested to know how the people could live in the jungle and I found a place between Panama and Columbia. This place is called Darièn, and it’s where there are a lot of different tribes, who speak Spanish as the official language but other languages between themselves.

Lorenzo Capano LS4

25

This place was colonized in the 16th century by the Spanish bugt they couldn’t change the traditions of all the tribes. Today 4 different populations live there, three tribes and a group of ex-soldiers of the Columbian army called FARC, which kill every stranger who passes through Darièn. The best place to live (for me) is an isolated house in a small grassland where I could put a lot of different things to have fun.

Lorenzo Capano LS4

26

To me a playlist is just a group of songs that you really like and vibe to. I personally have more than one playlist, an example is the playlist of my favourite songs without caring about what kind of song it is (rock, jazz, pop) and then another playlist where every song is of the same kind and usually they are all from my main ”favourites” playlist. I always want to ”update” my playlist by adding new songs and stop listening to the ones that I like less.

I always forgetttttttttt about doing that but by the way I still vibe to all of my songs on my playlist. I am not listening to much music during this period because I mainly listen while walking and obviously I’m staying at home almost 24h. Even if I am not listening to music that much at the moment I still love my playlists.

Lorenzo Capano LS4

History in the Making

I thought that this year would be the best year ever but I was wrong. The most important event that happened this year was the corona virus, which was an unknown virus which, for what I understood, gave you some breathing problems. At the start me and my friends were a bit scared but not too much; but when the quarantine started we all thought that it was the end: the humans vs an unknown virus and for all of us the stronger one was the virus; after a few weeks of quarantine the fear vanished but there was another problem: we couldn’t leave our homes!! In just one second our homes became like prisons with really strict rules.

Filippo Perrelli LS4

28

At that moment we were all was dieing of a shortage of fun when we heard the best thing of those months: we could leave our houses. so now we are here and its normal.

In my first picture after lockdown there are all my school mates posing in a group photo: there’re the smaller ones (me) then the medium ones and at the end the taller ones.  I am behind a school banner and you can see just half of me. We all are doing some fake smiles because the guy took the photo while we were doing some exercises so we didn’t think that someone wanted to take a photo of all us and so we were a little bit angry about that.

Filippo Perrelli LS4

29

I have had the same playlist for 5 or 4 years. I chose the music and so that playlist represents me, the old me, the current me and the future me. I don’t change playlists because if i want to go back to the “past” I can do it with a click. There’s just one rule in my playlist: never delete a song, because that song which maybe now I hate was a piece of me and to delete it would be a stupid action. The big part of the songs in my playlist are rap or hip-hop music, but there are also some”mistakes” which were just a phase, but if you think about this all my playlist could be a phase and maybe I’ll return to like them!!!

My last photo before the lockdown is a selfie that I took when I was at the football stadium ,”San Paolo”, with my mum to see the match between Napoli and Barcelona. The photo was taken by me before the match started. The game finished 1-1, Mertens scored a wonderful goal.

I was really happy when Phase 3 started , so my mum and I decided to go to Castellabate (a place where we have a beach house) with my cousin. On this “first” weekend we went to a gorgeous restaurant. There I took a picture, the most important picture after Phase 3. In the picture there’s me, my mum and my cousin eating dessert. The desserts were delicious!

I would like to live in peace with the people that I love. It is for this reason that I would like to live at the North pole. There I would be alone with my loved ones and do whatever we wanted. I’d also like to live there because on the poles there is either morning or night for 6 months, things that I’ve always loved, also because I prefer night to the morning, but obviously there are two sides of the coin, so I’d have to live with the sun for the other six months. There wouldn’t be many people so peace would reign, that means that there wouldn’t be children that put horrible songs that nobody wants to hear in the streets. I think that I would live there for the rest of my life, hopefully with someone by my side.

A playlist is a list where you can find any type of video or music that you like to watch or listen to. On YouTube I have a playlist with every kind of video that you can find on the Platform, including music, hilarious videos and scary ones. On my playlist I have exactly 1449 videos. On another app I have a playlist made up only of music and I put there every song that I find and like. I don’t really care about the order when I put things in my playlists, as I know how to find the videos I’m looking for.

My last picture before the lockdown was in Courmayeur, in fact I went there for 3 or 4 days, I went skiing with my friend and with my family and when we knew about the coronavirus we came back to Napoli. In this photo I was with my friends and their sisters and brothers, we were skiing and we were having a lot of fun.

Lucilla Pucci LS4

34

The first important photo that I sent in phase 3 was a photo with my sister, we were on our uncle’s boat, also with my mum and dad. In this photo I was very happy, we were in a very beautiful place in Procida. I sent this photo in a group with some of my friends. We went on the boat on Saturday and Sunday. This weekend I am going to Capri, my favourite island, and I am going to the sea with my friends and I think that I am going to have a lot of fun.

Playlists are a list of songs that you like. I don’t have a playlist because I always change my favourite songs. I listen to all the music that I like on an app called Spotify where there are a lot of different types of music. I made one or two playlists when I was 11 years old but now I don’t like them. I usually listen to pop music but I often change my tastes.

I found out a lot of informantion about Motuo. As the remotest county in the southeastern part of Tibet, Motuo is located on the southern of the Himalayas. It has a population of about ten thousand and there are only ethnic groups that live in villages. The people usually eat tropical fruits such as bananas and pineapples. It’s inaccessible by road, in fact people have to travel across the mountains for usually about four days.

I think that live in Motuo in very difficult, in fact I would prefer to live in Naples because there is everything that I need.

History in the Making

2020 was a horrible year for humanity. There were a lot of tragic events like the fires in Australia that burned a lot of forest and killed a lot of animals. During this year there was also a virus called the Coronavirus. During April and May the virus was weaker so the number of people affected was very small and the virus wasn’t as dangerous as in the past. The last tragic event was the possibility of a WW3 between America and Iran.

My first weekend after lockdown I went with my family and with a friend to Lake Averno, we had fun but that Sunday was very hot. In my picture there is the whole group and I can see my sister making strange faces, my mom smiling and my friend laughing. I hope I will return there because it was amazing.

I love music so I have a playlist, but it is not mine but I copied it from an Instagram page. I love it because it has only English songs that are most likely rap songs. But during these days of quarantine I have decided to start my own playlist and publish it on spotify. I hope people will like it and copy it.

History in the Making

This year has been a very special year. Many things have happened, most of them negative. Future generations will remember 2020 as the year of the coronavirus, of the forest fires, but also the year in which Napoli won the Italian Cup. Also the year in which the world proved to be a place made up of united and courageous people, who if necessary lock themselves in their house for months to save the lives of others. So I am proud to have been a spectator of this brave world and I am proud to be able to tell it to future generations.

Right now I would like to be in France, near the Alps,  camping with happy people, who are my friends. Going to go to the lake, having fun outdoors, playing football, riding bikes, going canoeing. The weather would be nice and mild, so I could ride my bike or go for a walk.

My last picture before lock-down was with my friends: Alessandro and Marco. We were by the sea and we were having a walk. That day was a sunny day and we were very happy. We took that picture because we didn’t have any pictures of us together

I have three different playlists, but I haven’t made them, my phone has. In fact they all have strange names. The first is called Top 50 and on it there are the 50 songs that I’ve heard the most. After there are songs I have liked, on this playlist there are all the songs that I’ve heard and that I liked. The last playlist is named Jj and there are songs that spotify suggested for me.

History in the Making

2020 was a really strange year! Everything started when in January we were about to have World War 3 because of a fight between Iraq and America, then in February the Amazon forest started to burn and we really had difficulties in putting out the fire, then in March the Corona virus arrived in italy and we were all forced to stay at home for 4 or even 5 months, then finally the deaths from corona virus started to decrease and finally we could go outside to have a walk, while in America George Floyd, a black man, was killed by a police man, and so cities all over America were full of people protesting for “Black Lives Matter”. Now it is almost July and I really don’t know anymore what to expect from this strange year.

My last picture before lock-down was a picture of me and my best friend in Piazza Dante eating a sandwich. We had just finished school and we were having a snack. My best friend had a sandwich full of ketchup and she got all her white shirt dirty. What a mess!

Right now I would love to be in the centre of Naples, doing my normal things. I would love to meet my friends at school and then go on foot to the San Carlo and do the dance lesson with all my friends. I really miss having a normal life and I miss my friends so much, I really hope we can go back to normal life as soon as possible.

Nowadays, many teenagers have a playlist and I am one of them. I created my first playlist on spotify 2 years ago when music became indispensable for me. I have 3 playlists, one where I have all my favourite songs, one where I have all cool music on which I love to dance to, and the last one where I have all the music that is used in my favourite tv series. I think that for all teenagers music is really important because it is part of us and it makes us feel relexed and happy.

Right now I would love to be in LA because it is where I should have gone this summer but because of the Corona Virus I can’t. I think that it is one of the most interesting places in all the world. During this quarantine I have become passionate about cinema and in LA there is obviously Hollywood so that would be like paradise.

My last picture before the lockdown is of nothing special. On the last normal day day I went to my best friend’s house and he gave me a lot of Harry Potter books and the we started to play Minecraft because during our childood we used to play this game and we decided to play this game so the photo is of a typical Minecraft building.

I love listening to music and I think that there is a kind of music for every emotion you feel. To organise how to listen music on a platform such as Spotify or Amazon music I decided to create playlists. The first I created was two years ago and it was just Italian rap. Now I have five playlists: one that I use when I’m sad, one when I want to have fun, another when I’m chilling, one for Italian rap and another for English rap.

History in the Making

This year was very strange. In January, in Australia, there were many bushfires that killed over 500 million animals; in America began the impeachment trial of the President of the United States and in China there was declared the outbreak of COVID 19. I think that this year will be remembered in particular for the Coronavirus, maybe because of the lockdown. I hope that this year will end soon, and there won’t be any more disasters.

Last summer I went to Lake Garda. In the picture you can see a little village, the lake, a boat and some mountains. I think it is a beautiful place because of the natural countryside and its historical and cultural sites. In the picture I’m on the lake with my father. In the background you can see the lake with some swans and a mountain. The weather was sunny and warm.

Carlo Dentice d’Accadia LS5

49

So like the most teenagers I also have a playlist with all the songs that I like. Playlists in general are useful to listen to songs that you like. I’ve only got one playlist where there are my favourite songs that I listen to every day while I’m playing PS4 or when I’m studying. I don’t have a favourite music genre because I listen to all kinds of music. I think that music makes you happy during the day or when you’re in a bad mood.

My last picture before lockdown was in Budapest with my mom my brother and my brother’s friends. We were in one of the most important squares of Budapest, I took a picture with my brother where we were sitting in the letter B of the word Budapest. It was the last day that I saw my brother before he returned to Italy at the end of his Erasmus studies.
