Canada seems to be one of the most friendly nations when it comes to several immigration programs. Federal Skilled Trades Program is one of the many programs under the Express Entry Visa System. It is designed particularly for the skilled workers who find it suitable to become a Canadian Permanent Resident. The entry to this particular program is
based on qualifying the minimum requirements along with the skilled work experience.

What The Program is All About?

The government of Canada tends to recognise communities from several Cities across the country. They are given immigration based on their experience in a variety of skilled trades occupations. The Federal Skilled Trades(formerly known as the Federal Skilled Trades Program) is the only
program that is specifically designed for applicants based on trades occupations.

What is the Processing Time?
Applicants of any immigration programs under the Canadian Immigration System take into account the average processing status while calculating

how much time it will take for them to put the approval status on their application.

In Canadian Immigration, the processing time is mostly defined as how long it takes for immigration authorities with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) to process the application, from the day it is received to the day of the final decision. However, it is important to note that processing time do not include the time taken to submit an expression of interest and receive an Invitation to Apply
for preparing the necessary documents(status cards, visas permits) etc.

Also, the processing time cannot be guaranteed. Most of the applications usually get processed within six months of submission.

Federal Skilled Trades Class-Eligibility Criteria
● The applicants need to qualify the basic language skill test
requirements that are speaking, reading, writing and listening. Not only this, but they also need to submit the results of any language test recognised by the Canadian Government. The minimum requirements of the above results need to be Canadian Language Benchmark(CLB) 5 in terms of speaking and listening and CLB 4 for writing and reading skills.
● Need to have at least two years of full time working experience in the skilled trade domain based on previous five-year experiences.
● Should have the ability to demonstrate those skills and experience acquired in the relevant fields he or she applied for.
● Should have access to full-time employment offer letter in that skilled trade for 1 year or hold a certificate of qualification in that skilled profession from a Canadian territorial authority.

Skilled Work Experience

Skilled Work Experience is mostly categorised under several occupations of the National Occupational Classification(NOC)
● Group 72 depicting trades in industries, electricity, and construction trades.
● Group 73 relates to the maintenance of several equipment operation trades.
● Group 82 deals with technical jobs in the domain like natural resources and agriculture.
● Group 92 relates to manufacturing, processing and utility supervisors.
● The Minor Group of 632 deals with cooks and chefs.
● The Minor Group of 633 deals with bakers and butchers.

Education

There is no particular education requirement under the Federal Skilled Trades Program. However, in case if you want to enhance your rank for the Express Entry Pool there are 2 ways of doing it-

● If you are a student of Canadian school, you can improve your points for a diploma, degree, or a certificate from a Canadian post- secondary or secondary institution.
● Also if you have foreign education, you can get a complete point assessment through ECA(Education Credential Assessment) for immigration purposes.
One point to be noted here is that if you are a federal skilled trades candidate without an offer of employment you need to declare sufficient funds to settle upon entering the Express Entry. The requirement may increase or decrease based on the size of the family of the applicant.
