Augmented Reality

What is augmented reality?
Augmented reality (AR) is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real world are enhanced by computer-generated perceptual information, sometimes across multiple sensory modalities, including visual, auditory, haptic, and somatosensory.

Augmented reality in education is surging in popularity in schools worldwide. Through augmented reality (AR), educators are able to improve learning outcomes through increased engagement and interactivity. And that’s just for starters. AR even has some surprising advantages over virtual reality (VR). (Scarlett, 2019)
Here are a few ways AR benefits education… and then a few examples of how it has already worked.
-AR’s relative seamlessness of digital objects within the “real world” encourages interactivity and engagement.
–It maximizes students’ ability to spend their time learning curricular subjects while minimizing the time spent learning how to use the new tech.
– AR can also inspire empathy in an individual. It offers two-dimensional methods of presenting information versus the traditional one-dimension.

AR provides students with opportunities to deepen their knowledge within several areas, including:
-
Reading
-
Working with numbers
-
Spatial concepts
-
Playing
-
Content creation
-
Real-life environments & scenarios

This amazing company created an augmented reality tool called Letters Alive and Math Alive to help students build their reading and math skills. Letters Alive brings letters and sounds to live in amazing 3D using animals. For each letter an animal comes to life and you learn uppercase and lowercase letters, sounds, letter formation and you can use the animal to build interactive sentences!

Experience the immersive wonder of 3D Augmented Reality, with creative coloring experiences that lets your creativity run wild. This site does cost but makes student’s coloring comes to life.

CoSpaces is adoptable to any age or subject. CoSpaces Edu lets students build their own 3D creations, animate them with code and explore them in Virtual or Augmented Reality.

Google Expeditions is an immersive learning and teaching tool that lets you go on VR trips or explore AR objects. This tool would be great for field trips. It also can be used in small or large groups.

AR Makr is a creative toolbox for augmented reality. With this app, students can sketch, scan, and snap the environment around them. Let them transform creations from 2D to 3D virtual objects. When you’ve created a 3D AR object, you can place your creations anywhere in your environment. Students can also record, save, and share scenes with their teacher.
