“MY PROPOSAL FOR AN ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN AGAINST STEREOTYPES :
My proposal for educate people to not believe in the stereotype which people tell on the school of art, so that they think that students and professors at this kind of school don’t do anything, is the following: I want to promote this campaign with a lot of advertising posts on Instagram, leaflet, colored panels, power points, photos, videos, banners and the power of the voice.
In this variety of documents I will write the following motivation and arguments:
-
People don’t have to generalize about the student which attend this school, because there are a lot and various kind of person, maybe some don’t want to study, but there are also a lot of people which put commitment, discipline and hard studying in they everyday work, just like other school, and maybe better than them.
-
For the same reason it is not correct to discriminate school of art’s professors, because they are as qualified as other schools’ professors, sometimes also more qualified than them, and they are lot of times really kind, human and comprehensive people.
For conclude my proposal I would like to do some examples about my school, a school of art, and all the projects and opportunities that it offers to its students: the school meet the jail, libera’s presidium, an association against criminal organizations, cinema and didactic film projects, afternoon classes of plastic and painting’s discipline, English courses, theater meetings, the Reyer school cup, sports tournament of football, volleyball…, trips and excursion in Padua and other cities, the Move project, which include two weeks all-payed didactic voyage in foreign countries and so on.“
PERSONAL COMMENT: Here it is my favourite quarantine’s argument. I have loved this argument because everyday me and many other people fight against prejudice and stereotypes, we live in a society that judge too much and make people feel judged. Me and my classmates also have made a video together for this campaign, it was nice to feel united despite the social distance imposed by the state during the quarantine period.

” READING AND LISTENING B1“
During the weeks from 2 to 16 March we have done a lot of listening and readings to practice better in the tests we should be dealing with for B1 certification.
I found them a little bit difficult, especially when I have to do it by myself, a situation that is really different from when we do it in class, with the teacher who is close to us and can give us some help.
However, it was very helpful to do it and now I know that I’ll need to practice a more.

PERSONAL COMMENT: In the first part of storyboard there is my personal description of Wife of Bath. I think she is a sensual and provocant woman but sometimes she may appear unloyal.
In the second part of storyboard is rappresented how the Wife of Bath became deaf. From my point of view this episode shows how brave was the Wife of Bath, a woman that looks for emancipation in a society full of misogyny.
I really liked doing this kind of work, because I found it really creative and funny. I didn’t do it thinking it was an homework, but I did it like if it was a game.
I would like to do this kind of work other time, because I think it is a valid option for learning English and have fun.
“STORY OF WIFE OF BATH FROM MY POINT OF VIEW :
Once upon a time a queen gave one of her young knights a task : he had to find the answer to this question: What do women really want in their lives? The knight travelled to the city, he went in a lot of shops, places and houses, asking every lady he met what she really desire. The women answered that they want money, jewels, dress, a man that really love hers for what they are. Then he came back to the queen and he told her what he has listened. But she wasn’t satisfied yet, so she told him to bring her the real answer in a month, and if he wouldn’t do it in the terms he would be punished by reclusion in a cell for his entire life. After that the sad young knight visited a wood to meditate and find out what a woman really wants. Doing this he fell asleep. When he got up he found in front of him an old and horrible hag. Firstly he got scared by this sight, but then he just believed it was only a dream, so he asked the hag the same question he had done to the other women. He was surprised by the answer that she gave him, because, unlike the other women she told that a woman only desire being free, with no stereotypes, she only want being free to do and tell whatever she want, to dress and behave however she like, she desire to be happy and to feel well with herself. The knight, who couldn’t just let this words fly in the air, told the hag that those things where already in possession of women, so she explained him that lots of times the women are judged for being themselves. Pleased by the answer the knight, after showing his gratefulness to the clever hag, ran to the castle of the queen for tell her the final answer. After the queen has heard the knight’s words decided to give him a gift for his victorious answer: she let him marry her daughter, the most beautiful princess in all the world. So, after this adventure the couple lived happy and satisfied for the rest of their life.“
PERSONAL COMMENT: Here it is the story of the Wife of Bath from my point of view. I think there are some similitudes and some differences between the original story and mine, and I found really funny to recreate the story from my point of view. I’d like to do a similar exercise, which is, just with some help from the teacher, figuring our own story and then she’ll tell us the real one.
” BIOGRAPHY OF GEOFFREY CHAUCER IN FIRST PERSON :
I am Geoffrey Chaucer. I was born in 1343. I am the son of a wine merchant. I received an excellent education. I found employment in the house of John of Gaunt, son of King Edward III of England. My skill and inventiveness as a writer, my clever mind and practical ability helped me raise my social status. I worked as a controller of the customs for the port of London. I took part in important diplomatic missions. I died in 1400 and I was the first poet to be buried in Westminster Abbey, in Poets’ Corner. I am the father of English literature. My language, the dialect of my native London, gradually became standard English, thus becoming the basis of Modern English. In my masterpiece The Canterbury Tales, I was able to give a portrait of the English society of his time. In my life I had three periods: French Period poems modelled on French romance styles and subjects: The Romaunt of the Rose (before 1373) and The Book of the Duchess (ca 1369). The Italian Period during which I developed a greater maturity of perception and skill in the manipulation of the meters, influenced by Boccaccio. The English Period marked by greater realism, includes my masterpiece The Canterbury Tales.“
PERSONAL COMMENT: I found this argument a little bit boring, but I am know well that this is writer is one of the most important in the archaic english litterature.

” ADAM DELVING ART LAB
AUTHOR
Name William of Sens/ Guillaume de Sans
Date of death Canterbury, 11 august 1180
Artistic movement/ contextualization English gotic imported by France
WORK
Title of the work Adam Delving
Date: 1176 d.C.
Location: Cathedral of Canterbury, it is located in the choir in the middle of the bottom row.
Technique employed: glass mosaic
Description of the work /Iconography: He is shown ‘delving’ with a medieval spade, yellow wood with a pale blue metal cutting edge. His skirt appears to have the hooves of the lamb still attached. The single tree symbolises a garden (two trees would have indicated a forest!) and the golden clouds above his head (symbolising paradise).
Message/Interpretation: Adam is an ideal portrayal of a medieval peasant. He works the land, bare-chested. His spade digs deep. A tree grows, grey against the blue sky. Work is the curse of Adam, the fate of humanity exiled from Eden. Yet it has dignity in this picture. When the sun catches its colours, the digger shines heroically.
PERSONAL OPINION
I like this work because the structure is regular and clean. I don’t like this work because the colours are gloomy and dark.
Watching this painting I feel : cheerful, sad, calm
List of adjectives commonly used to describe a work of art: Decorative, Expressive, Geometrical, Well-balanced, hard edged, Multicoloured, Humorous, Peaceful“
” ADAM DELVING Reading Card
– ADAM is the oldest (c.1174 AD) and most famous of 43 surviving panels depicting the Ancestors of Christ, dating from the late 12th century and originally placed in the clerestory of the Canterbury Cathedral . The panel is now located in the central light in the bottom row of the West Window.
– WHAT ? Very popular in the Middle Ages, the stained glass technique consists in joining coloured pieces of glass using lead strips .
The term stained glass derives from the silver stain that was often applied to the side of the window that would face the outside of the building.
– WHERE? Stained glass was commonly used to make the windows of churches and cathedrals usually showing episodes of the Holy Bible . The light shining through the windows made them easily visible to people inside .
– WHY? During the Middle Ages the Church had great power over the community . Stories depicted on stained glass helped the Church to give religious instructions even to illiterate people.
– Blue is the colour of the sky and the colour of the divine, of mistery and trascendence.
– Adam appears thin, curved and tired. He is bare-chested and his strong muscles show his daily labour.
– Adam’s face is pale , sad and tired.
– The greyish colour of the tree shows that it is weak and ill, only a leaf is green.
– The green leaf It represents hope for salvation.
– Adam is an ideal portrayal of a medieval peasant. In medieval Britain, there were three orders of people, those who pray – the Church – those who fight – the knighthood – and those who labour, like Adam to bring food from the land. The purpose of the Church is to strengthen the hierarchical concept of society and put into evidence the dignity of work .Hard work and submission to God’s will are means of redemption and promise of salvation.
– Curved lines can be recognised on Adam,s face, body and knees and on the branches and leaves of the tree. The message is that the whole universe ( man and nature) must be submitted to God’s will.
– Adam ‘s spade digs deep into the hard soil . It represents Adam’s hard work and the fate of man exiled from Eden.
– The land is green, the colour of hope . Work is the curse of man and the memory of his sin , but also his means of redemption, together with Baptism.
– The river is blue and represents the salvation through the holy water of Baptism.
– The vertical format makes the figures slender and lively, moreover it helps to express the medieval conception of life on hearth as preparation to the authentic life after death and the desire of man to be reunited to God.“
PERSONAL COMMENT:
During the quarantine, we also discussed the subject of the Canterbury cathedral, particularly the work Adam Delving.
I thought it was interesting, although a little difficult, I do not know many words about art in English, so sometimes I did not understand very well, but it was interesting to study history of art in English.
” LETTER TO FRIEND FOR A VISIT AT CANTERBURY CATHEDRAL
Hi Johnny, How are you?
I have heard that you want to go to the Canterbury Cathedral. It is very important and famous cathedral for a lot of reasons. The first one is his history about the murder of Thomas Becket, the archbishop Canterbury.
In June 1170 Henry the Young King, of York, is said to have exclaimed words that were interpreted by his men as wishing Becket killed. The knights informed Becket that he had to go to Winchester to give an account of his actions, but Becket refused. After the refuse the knights went upon him to kill him. The four knights ran into the room saying “Where is Thomas Becket, traitor to the King and country?!”. After seeing them, Becket said, “I am no traitor and I am ready to die.” One knight grabbed him and tried to pull him outside, but Becket grabbed onto a pillar and bowed his head to make peace with God. The second reasons are: for it art, bells, famous stained-glass windows, the library.
Many pilgrims and visitors have traveled to Canterbury Cathedral since the Middle Ages. It remains one of the most visited places in the country and an interesting church and community.
The pilgrimages to Becket’s tomb are very popular. The Canterbury Tales, written in the fourteenth century by Geoffrey Chaucer, narrate the journey of a group of pilgrims from London to the sanctuary of Thomas Becket.
When you go to the visit you can stay at the Canterbury Cathedral Lodge, located immediately next to the Cathedral. The Cathedral Lodge is a unique and contemporary hotel and conference venue in the heart of the city of Canterbury.
Let me know how your visit to the cathedral will go.
See you soon.
Bye.
Chiara “
PERSONAL COMMENT: I have loved this homework, I’ve always wanted to have a friend at distance to write letters to. I think it’s fun and useful to learn English. Communication is also essential to people who speak a language foreign, and this task has been very helpful to compare using our language knowledge to communicate to a friend of a visit to the Cathedral in Canterbury.

” Bob Marley – Get Up Stand Up
link to the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2W3aG8uizA “
PERSONAL COMMENT: Bob Marley without any doubt is a huge example of revolutionary music. He invited people to join his cause, to stand up against the oppression, to live a life in peace, without violence, he inspired people to change their life and be themselves. I found this argument really beautiful, especially this song gives me every time I listen to it a sense of power and braveness that gives me hopes and happiness.
” ED SHEERAN- ERASER

PERSONAL COMMENT: we also used this Ed Sheeran song to learn better English language, it was fun to use this language learning method, especially playing on the Lyrics training site, I learned many new words.
” Covid-19 vs Black death
link video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTxPbc4iW-o&feature=youtu.be”
PERSONAL COMMENT: During quarantine we also discussed the issue of differences between the COVID-19 and Black Death. At that time, symptoms were different like bubbons on the skin, black nails, while Covid’s symptoms are similar to those of normal flu. Moreover, the difference in medicine research is much more advanced today with regard to vaccines and how the situation is addressed with prevention. I personally think it’s much better to live these days. I didn’t like this argument very much because, considering that I’m hypochondriacal, I became very nervous. Although I’m of the idea that it is necessary to talk about this arguments and understand the importance of the history, which can always help us in situation like this.

– Here is the script of the original video : highlight the sentences which also appear in the advertising
I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible. Jew – Gentile – Black Man, White. We all want to help one another, human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness. Not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. And this world has room for everyone, and the good Earth is rich can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives us abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynincal. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much, and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity. More that cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities life will be violent, and all will be lost. The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men – cries out for universal brotherhood – for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world – millions of despairing men, women, and little children – victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me, I say – do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed – the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish. … Soldiers! don’t give yourselves to brutes – men who despise you – enslave you – who regiment your lives – tell you what to do – what to think and what to feel! Who drill you – diet you – treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men – machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts! You don’t hate! Only the unloved hate – the unloved and the unnatural! Soldiers! Don’t fight for slavery! Fight for liberty! In the 17th Chapter of St Luke it is written: “the Kingdom of God is within man”
– not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people have the power – the power to create machines. The power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then – in the name of democracy – let us use that power – let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world – a decent world that will give men a chance to work – that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfil that promise. They never will! Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people! Now let us fight to fulfil that promise! Let us fight to free the world – to do away with national barriers – to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness. Soldiers! in the name of democracy, let us all unite.
– Chose one sentence you like most and explain why
Let us fight to free the world – to do away with national barriers – to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. I love this sentence because today there is a lot of discrimination towards different people, towards people of foreign nationality, many people are disgusted because people have disabilities or because they are homosexual.
– On the technichal viewpoint , which changes have been made to adapt the original speech to the new medium? Why? Many parts of the speech were cut to be adapted to today’s issues, because at the time and a speech based on the wars of the period.
Link video speech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HA8kSdsf_M
PERSONAL COMMENT: This is another of my favorite arguments carried out during the quarantine. The great dictator’s speech is moving and despite being “done” so long ago still today we don’t have a united society, happy and against any kind of exclusion force of people “different” from us for skin, culture, sexual orientation etc… society should be more open-minded and stop judging what comes considered different, because we are all the same, all with the same rights and no one deserves to be treated differently. I would love to deal with this topic many times again because it is essential to live in a better society.
” MAGNA CHARTA- LEGACY :
As a powerful symbol of liberty, right and justice, Magna Carta has been used by a wide variety of people in the struggle for rights and justice. From Suffragettes and fascists to radicals and imperialists, and from leaders such as Winston Churchill to activists such as Nelson Mandela and Gandhi. Another example of its use as a legal form of liberty was when in late 18th and early 19th-century in Britain, during a period dominated by revolutions and agitation for parliamentary reform, pictures of Magna Carta proliferated as a symbol of liberty. Magna Carta was also used to challenge Parliament, which some people believed was in serious need of reform. The year 1820 saw appeal made to Magna Carta at the trial of the Cato Street conspirators, who had plotted to murder the entire British Cabinet. William Davidson used Magna Carta to argue that they were acting for the good of the country. For Davidson, direct violent action was condoned by Magna Carta’s clause 61 – justifying armed retaliation if the clauses of the Charter were ignored – as a legitimate response to a tyrannical government.“
PERSONAL COMMENT: Finally we studied what the Magna Charta said. Magna Charta is a really important document because it is one of the first example of laws on which a modern society are based and it was one of the first examples of democracy on that society.
