Nowadays, mobile phones have become a crucial part of people’s daily life. Today it is hard to find a person who does not use a mobile phone. Besides being a means of communication, mobile phones have a big range of functions. For many people, they have replaced the wrist watches, alarm clocks, calculator, photo and video cameras, music players, radio, video players, GPS and many other functions, all in a device which can fit in your pocket. Smartphones have partially replaced computers by allowing the user to browse the internet. The high popularity and demand for cell phones led to a variety of mobile phone brands emerging. There are also many different operating systems for smartphones, including Symbian, BlackBerry OS, iOS, Windows Mobile, and Android.

Since 1976, Apple Inc., the most innovative company in the world according to Fast Company, has introduced a number of unique products, which gained huge popularity: Mac Computer, iPod, iPad and of course the iPhone. Fast Company Staff states, “Apple is known for its groundbreaking designs and cutting edge gadgets, one of which is the iPhone which has revolutionized the smart phone in many ways” (Frommer). Frommer stresses, “The screen-centric design of the iPhone was later copied by many other phone makers.” Apple’s mobile phone was the first one to have multi-touch technology, which allowed for easy zoom in and out with a “pinch” motion. Additionally, its innovative accelerometer motion sensor allowed rotating the display by simply turning the phone sideways. What is more, it was the first mobile phone to use a gesture-based interface which allowed to “flicking” through the menu, between photos, music albums and web pages, which is a fun and intuitive way to browse the internet. The first iPhone was introduced in 2007; the product line was so successful that, by 2012, it was responsible for 60% of Apple’s revenues.

Today, Apple’s latest model iPhone 5 is considered one of the top mobile phones in the world. Furthermore, it is proved to be one of the best mobile phones for buying in the current year. In accordance with Finnamore, “Five generations on, and the iPhone is still the model to beat. Android has taken great strides, but iOS is still the slickest, fastest and easiest to use operating system, and there’s no arguing with the quality of the apps in the Apple App Store.”

Indeed, Apple has a number of exclusive applications accessible only via its App Store and not available for Android phones. Not so long ago the extremely popular Instagram could be only obtained through Apple App Store. Even though Android has caught up, there are still some popular and exclusive apps available for Apple users: Flipboard, Pinterest, Tweetbot and many others.

To conclude, a mobile phone is a great multifunctional device worth having today. I would strongly recommend buying the iPhone based on everything mentioned above. One would have to pay a premium though, however, considering the quality, innovation, simplicity in application, brand popularity and the great customer service which the product offers it is worth it. Although, according to Reisinger, “It is worthwhile to wait until July for the new model 5S to come out as it is expected to have a better processor, more memory, more graphics prowess, better design and more importantly a reduced price compared to its predecessor.”
