YAEL ARAD is famous. She was in the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992. She was the first Israeli to win an Olympic medal in a judo competition. She was also the winner of a gold medal in a competition in Europe in 1993.

MARTIN COOPER was the first person to use a cell phone! It was in New York in 1973. The phone wasn’t like the ones we use today – it was big and heavy.

MARIE CURIE was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize in 1903. She was also the first person to win two Nobel Prizes – one in physics (פיזיקה) and another one in chemistry!(כימיה) Her husband, Pierre, was also a scientist and won a Nobel Prize with Marie.

ILAN RAMON was on the space shuttle (מעבורת חלל) Columbia in 2003. Six other astronauts were with him. On the way back to Earth, the space shuttle broke apart (התפרקה). All seven astronauts died.

In 1849, ELIZABETH BLACKWELL was the first woman to finish medical school (בית ספר לרפואה)! After that, she opened the first medical school for women in New York in 1868.

ROALD AMUNDSEN was an explorer from Norway. He was the first person to get to the South Pole in the year 1911. He was also one of the first people to fly over the North Pole. (הקוטב הצפוני)
