Characters:
1-Emil Tischbein: Emil is a ‘good boy’ (though he has to try hard) who does as he’s told and worries what his domineering mother might think or say about him.
2- The Detectives: The detectives are a cheerful, thought argumentative bunch of local children who help Emil foil Grundeis and get his money back.
3-Mrs Tischbein: Comedy and poignancy define this character. She is organised, overbearing, continually instructing Emil what to say and do and goes on and on…and on.
4-Max Grundeis: Though dressed respectably enough, Grundeis is a thief who strikes a chord of unease in Emil from the beginning, making the reader wary of him too.
5-Pony: Emil’s show-off cousin with a bike is no shrinking violet, but for all her gusto and zeal she is not allowed to join in on the action because she is a girl and ‘nice girls’ go to bed early.
The plot of the story:
Traveling by bus to visit his aunt, Emil loses an envelope of money to sneak thief Grundeis (Heinz Schubert). The boy enlists the aid of a gang of young detective-story aficionados, led by Gustav, to locate the thief. This leads to a perilous adventure when it turns out that Grundeis is in league with an erudite master criminal known as The Baron (Walter Slezak), who is planning a major heist.
I’m recommend my friends a read the story“ Emil and the Detectives“.
I advise my friends to read the story because it is beautiful and reflects the cooperation that was between Emil and her friends, and it is a story that also expresses how Emil was subjected to theft and she looked for the thief until she found him and returned the money.
