7 years ago, my family and I had a dog named Maya.
She came with us for every trip, she was the subject of most of our conversations and I loved her more than anything.
But Maya was hyperactive, and every time we left her home alone she jumped on the sofas, ruined our clothes, broke expensive dishes and ate our notebooks.
One day my parents realized they couldn’t handle her anymore and decided to give her to someone, but they didnt tell me who.

After a lot of boring trips, lots of days that we felt lonely and 7 years of feeling like something was missing, I realized I wanted- No, I realized I needed a dog. My siblings agreed with me but my parents didnt (And when I say my parents didn’t agree, I mean my mom didn’t , and my dad didn’t get involved)
But we didn’t give up so quickly. All week we have stopped talking normally. Every time they asked us a question we answered them with a picture of a dog or just the word “dog”!
At the end, our mission succeeded and we convinced them. so we went to the kennel together and couldn’t believe what I saw…

It was horrible. I thought there will be a lot of puppies playing together, but instead there were sad dogs. a few without a foot, a few without an eye, some looked like they had never seen sunlight before. They were in little cages and they were just waiting for someone to adopt them and save them from this place.

We went between the cages and the manager told us the story of each of the dogs.
One dog named Archie came here because the owner didn’t have the money to keep him.
Another dog named Sophie was born in the street and no one knows what happened to her mother.
The last we saw was Amy. She was white and she had a lot of fur, she couldn’t stop running inside her cage when she saw us!
The manager said no one comes to the last cages because they always pick a dog before. We’re the only ones who saw Amy…
We knew right away we wanted her in our house.

Just before we left, I heard a bark. A bark I’ve already heard before..
I told my mom I wanted to see who barked and she told me to ignore it because I’m in a kennel and all the barking sounds the same, but I knew it was different. I have decided I won’t come home until I find out why it sounds so familiar, so I told my parents I had to go to the bathroom and I was gone before they could remember there was no toilet there.
And then I saw her. Inside one cage barked a dog that I know very well. Next to it there was a sign that says “Maya”

It’s been seven years, but she hasn’t forgotten me, and I haven’t forgotten her. My mom came in and I begged her to let me adopt Maya again, and she agreed!
Since that day we’ve had two dogs at home – Maya and Amy. Maya has a little less energy than she used to, but it’s okay.
We didn’t have any more boring trips and we didn’t feel lonely.
I love them more than anything.
