Billy the Water Molecule

Hi, my name is Billy and I am a water molecule. I have been a part of all different types of bodies of water. I’ve gone through many experiences including precipitation, gravity, condensation, evaporation, and heat energy. All of these experiences have a part in the water cycle. My story starts years ago in the ocean.

I started my journey in the ocean and I stayed there for many years while other molecules got chosen to be evaporated because of the sun’s energy. The heat energy is the reason for evaporation because the heat causes the water molecules to turn to water vapor. Water molecules turning into water vapor is called condensation. The water vapor rises into the clouds. Then, one day I got chosen to go up into the clouds and evaporate. 

I stayed in the clouds for a tiny bit because of gravity. Gravity was the reason I went up into the clouds and stayed there with all of the other molecules. Next, the cloud that I was inside rained and I fell down, which is called precipitation.

 Then, I became frozen into a glacier and I stayed as a glacier for a little while before I melted from the sun’s heat. When I melted I became groundwater. Right after I traveled from the ground water into a lake. Once I was in the lake I evaporated again into the clouds. Lastly, I fell back down into the ocean again.

I have been in the ocean now for about 5 years and I’m hoping to go into the clouds again. Hopefully soon I will be able to leave the ocean and evaporate, but until then I’ll wait, and while I wait I think of my journey. My journey through the water cycle is something I know I will never forget.
