Story of a Water Molecule

Hello everyone, I’m Droopy the water droplet and I have gone through the water cycle many times. Want to hear a story of my first trip through the cycle?

So, on one hot day, I was sitting in the ocean with all of my friends when suddenly, I evaporated and started floating up. Evaporation is when a liquid gets so much heat energy (from sunlight or otherwise), that it turns into water vapor.

 Anyway, I started floating up and eventually became part of a cloud. Then, I went through condensation. Condensation is when a gas cools down and becomes a liquid again, but I didn’t get pulled down by gravity quite yet because I wasn’t heavy or big enough to fall down. 

I was getting bigger and bigger as I bunched up with other water droplets, and a little bit later, I started falling back to the ground. That is called precipitation. I was coming down as rain, but I saw some other droplets in the distance freezing into snow or hail.

When I landed in the soil, I was immediately filtered through it, into groundwater. I flowed with the groundwater until I reached the surface again, where I ended up in a river. 

The river carried me back to the ocean, the same place I started. Do you see? It all comes full circle. See you next time I fall from a cloud!
