     life in the camps:

Upon arrival at a camp, refugees are first registered and given an identity card. Depending on the size of the family, basic services also include the provision of tents, blankets, mattresses, plastic sheeting, cooking utensils and water containers, and food ration cards. All these relief items can be provided within 72 hours by UNHCR, which delivers on average between 70,000 and 100,000 tents and nearly 2 million square meters of plastic sheeting per year. The provision of shelter is thus one of UNHCR’s main tasks: our organization spends on average around USD 300 million per year on such shelters and around USD 670 million on non-food items, the latter mainly comprising tents and plastic sheeting.
