And the tough wall cells in the grass makes it hard to digest. Animals like elephants and giraffes have just 3 to 4 feet trees with no leaves to take shade from the heat of the savanna’s summer.

Small and large animals are always on the run from predators. Different size animals have different types of tactics. One tactic like running is the most common non tactic. But the digging underground tactic is usually used by small animals like prairie dogs or pocket gophers. Did you know pocket gophers dig 300 feet down before they start digging forward.

In the summertime grass fires are very common. Since the lowest temperature during the summer is 98 degrees the grass is very dry so if there’s a little spark from a rock falling on another rock. It can start a fire and the fires spread really fast so 96% out of all the animals will survive. After the fires are out the grasslands there are just piles of ashes. But humming birds will come back and find the grass seed that starts popping out of all the ashes to eat it.

What do animals in the grasslands eat? Well the animals are always on the hunt for other animals. Some will find wildflowers and other grasses. Did you know there’s over 50 different type of wild flowers in the grassland. Some grass plants can grow up to 6 feet tall.

Droughts in the savanna summertime is very common. And that’s because the equator goes through the middle of africa. Which makes even hotter than the winter. So if you go to the grasslands in africa. It will be very warm there.
